Turbo ecm?

I found 2 1989 turbo grand prix in the junk yard today. I took the turbos and intercoolers off since i want to make my own turbo trans am. I was wondering if i could mod and use the ecm from the turbo gp to use on my tpi formula with the turbo?

Hello, I was wondering if you still have a 3.1 Turbo ECM? I am looking for one to run my V-6 with. Thanks, John

Re: Turbo ecm?

Holy thread resurrection!

3.1 Turbo GPs are actually a really rare car with low prod #s. Freaky he saw 2 in a spot. Musta been a collector or something.

Funnily enough it comes up that it could be a 7727 box on Autozone. I would have expected a 7749 or something. To the second poster:
It's a standard ECU, even used in some Camaros. My opinion is either find the chip file (which should be doable online) or find someone that can give you a base tune to mess around with. Chances are you'll end up tweaking the snot out of it anyways although it'd be a better starting point than an N/A bin probably.

Other options that are budget friendly would include rewiring a bit and getting a 7749 box, getting EBL (check for your ECU, it may be supported. Not sure) or getting a Megasquirt box.

Re: Turbo ecm?

Thanks. I was thinking of using the 3.1 Turbo ECM on my 3.4 DOHC engine with a turbo. I have a 1989 Trans Am TTA ECM, but it is for sequential fuel injection, and my 3.4 is multi-port.

Re: Turbo ecm?

Are you looking for the 7727 for under hood installation? The 7730 could be used but its not weather proof like the 7727, but all the inner workings are the same AFAIK, would need to be mounted in the interior of the car.
