Heads for Blown Applications...
I understand the benefit of Aluminum Heads, less weight, better heat dissipation, aggressive timing over iron heads, etc...
My question... I'm looking to start a 350 build... I know AFR heads are $1500 and can really benefit a naturally aspirated car... but since I'm going to supercharge it, would I be best served with cheaper iron heads ? Would I be spending $750 on aluminum over iron for 10 more hp ?
I'm building a street car with 10 to 15 PSI Procharged...
Thanks,
Rafael

Re: Heads for Blown Applications...
Boost creates higher cylinder pressure, which in turn creates higher cylinder temps. The heat dissipation is a big help in getting the tune right and making good power.
I've been very happy with my topline heads, which are now RHS and can be had for much less than AFR's. I think AFR makes a great head, but not enough(sometimes any) better than others to warrant the $ difference, especially on a boosted application.

I suggest buying bare castings and having a cylinder head machinist set them up for your specific application. A lot of machine shops have suitable castings sitting around.
The gear and machining on the head is going to do you more good than the actual casting itself.

with any supercharged turboed na or nos engine the main goal is to make power and tq. wich requires flow. junk heads dont flow so you will need a ton more boost to make power wich in turn hurts parts and heats the air. a good head will flow well and make more power at a lower boost.
and rhs heads are not that much cheaper. if you are looking to buy deff do a lot of research. afrs may be 200 more than the next closest head but they are well worth it. i have a set of afr 210 eleminaor. the best head for the money by far. and if its 300 or 200 more that is nothing in my eyes. a competiton port elem 195 runner flows neer or over 300 cfm. i know of 230 runner heads that cant do that. and with the smaller port you powerband will still be lower not needeng to turn the motor very hard to make killer power.

Cheap:

With some 2256 pistons and a 9:1 compression ratio you should be able to pull your 15psi with no probs.
