Mass air problem with charger, help please
I have an 86 iroc tpi runnin a paxton charger, I have the mass air flow mounted on the charge side of the charger and also runnin stock ecu which i know is the issue i know i need a custom chip done,The problem is the stock ecu is calibrated at idle or under 10 percent throttle its supposed to see between 5 and 7 grams of air per sec but at idle with the charger its at 9 to 10 grams per second which is kickin the check engine light for high mass air and 42 cause its tryin to retard the timing seein too much air. I have already tried mounting the mass air on the inlet side of charger and it runs fine no codes but not efficient not being on the boost side.Has any one had this issue or know how to get around it besides a custom chip with new calibrations eventually i know i have to but i dont have the 600 for the chip from tpis right now.any help would be appreciated thanks

Re: Mass air problem with charger, help please
i had that same problem i have a paxton on my 1988 tpi 355 motor,i used to run mass airflow on the boost side i was always getting mass airflow high voltage when it was cold outside.i adjusted the tps from stock .54 to .64 and the light never came back on.but now i moved it to the sucking side after the air filter but it was running ok with a stock chip but now i have a custom made on.

Thanks for everyones help, im gonna try puttin the mass air on the inlet side of charger for now and make sure no codes come back as it was when i first installed it to rule out that there is nothong else wrong besides the mass air seeing too much air snd go from there. Also thanks for the diagrams thats a big help so i can trace things if need be, its a big help

Re: Mass air problem with charger, help please
Well still having the hi mass air flow code but it takes a few miles for it to come on i had set the tps sensor to .64 volts and i noticed a big diff i had a weak spot in the rpm range between 2000 and 3000 that it took care of so thanks for the tip def helped.I put thr mass air sensor on the inlet side now it just takes longer for the code to show up is there any more suggestions on how to fix or get around this issue? Tpis sais they can do a custom chip and can fix the issue just wondering if there is something i can try myself for now any ideas? It runs better than it ever has now just the code issue

Anyone can do the chip. Just the airflow value for tripping the code needs to be changed. For such a simple change I bet TPIS gets a big chunk of change.

tpis suggests the stage 5 chip cause its supercharged and with all the other mods they want round 600 to burn a custom chip but they say it will gain alot more horse too im sure its worth it but for changing one value for the mass air to get it to run right thats alot of money for now
