Those of you that have high HP, aggressive cam, power adder motors...

How often do you drive your cars? How many miles on your motor with no maintenance? minimal? major?

I am getting a supercharged 383 LT1 and am just curious about how well your builds are and how long they are last.

i usually pull my engine once a year to freshen it up. thats also a good time to make changes to the engine. when you make over 1.5 hp per cid you're always chasing the weakest link. rings and bearings get hit pretty hard. change your oil often, keep an eye on oil pressure and blow-by, maybe invest in a leak down gauge. if you suspect a problem don't push it (fix it) and your motor will be happy

if its a t56 car it might help, but big injectors, big fuel pumps and rising rate fuel pressure regulators dont usually equal good mileage.
i have a aeromotive A1000 pump, boost referenced reg. and a blowthru 750 (and th350)
and prob got 5 in it under boost and 12-14 if i was nice to it.

you could probably achieve 18ish if your nice to it.

I drive mine daily and put about 1500 miles/month on it. I built the engine 2-1/2yrs ago and haven't done any maintenance to it. Every component on the engine was brand new and I had a machine shop assemble and balance it. I didn't skimp in any area and b/c of that I haven't had any engine problems. Another thing I do is use synthetic oil and change it at least every 3000 miles. The tune has a lot to do with it when you factor in forced induction. I keep the fuel and timing conservative and watch out for knock. The great thing about the turbo is that I can make good power and still get over 20mpg when I want.

Sound advise. If built well that engine should last plenty long. My saab makes 230 hp from 140 cu in, that's 1.64 hp/cu in. I has cast pistons, forged rods and crank. It's gone 140,000 miles without issue and I expect another 140,000. Why? It's tuned rich and with conservative ignition from the factory. You tune a race car on the raggedy edge, a street car you want to find the raggedy edge and then dial it back 5-10%.

I am def. not skimping out on the engine or anything else on my car.. as everyone shall soon see

I am planning to run a D1SC procharger at 12 lbs. No intentions of going higher and got a good shop building the motor so everything should go well. It is going to be T-56. I also have the Aeromotive fuel system.
