Sweet car man. You need to get it on the track and see what kind of numbers it will turn.

thanks bro, i'd love to, but they closed all the nearby tracks and it'll cost me $900 in fuel to get to e-town and $1800 to get towed back when i break something.

Re: supercharged vortech gta
Which head unit is it? How much boost? SC pulley size?
The folks at GTAsourcepage.com would probably enjoy this too.

Re: supercharged vortech gta
well, it's an older v1. i'm only running around 8-9 lbs of boost currently, but i have a smaller pulley waiting to go on. not sure what size. I built it to take 15 lbs, but I want to be around 12-13lbs for the street. I'm just not gonna do that till i am at a dyno and i can jet it properly and monitor my 02's. it pulls really hard right now anyway, and i don't have traction in any of the gears, I can't even use first, and I can smoke em when i am cruising along in drive! it's plenty of power for right now. my buddy has a 641hp lt4 car, so we're gonna run them and see who is quicker, he should be faster now, untill i put more boost. the motor is only 8.2:1 compression, so i can run as much as the blower lets me. It definately makes more power than with the blower and the superam, and it runs better. the boost will also depend on what cam i run, right now i'm running a cross between a blower cam and a NA cam. N/A cams are what make the real power, there was a write up about that in hot rod mag with my setup. you can make more boost with blower cams, but not always more power...later

Re: supercharged vortech gta
update: put a full manual 700-r4 FB tranny in and then proceeded to blow up motor. will be eoing a 383 like the one in hot rod's version of the 383 with the vortech carb enclosure and xe282 cam that made 677hp on 8lbs boost. should be started late fall and completed by spring.

Sorry to hear about the current engine, but I'm glad to hear that your building an even better one in its place. Although I've been in New Jersey for the last few years, I still have a house in Queens not too far away, so if you need any help over the winter just say the word....

Re: supercharged vortech gta
nice thanks! i just may. the old engine did its job. it was built mostly as a mockup motor and as a bridge to this point.. it lasted a while.. home built for pennies. stock crank and rods. the new one will be a forged rotating assembly...i'm guessing i had rod flex or somehting.

Justin - That's the 1st time I've seen your car since I've been on this board (as you know that's been a few years) ...nice ride man! Gotta love those GTA's!!
I didn't know those Vortech blowers were so loud! Do you have an adjustable BOV or something that's dumping some boost? On another note, you're going with a XE268 cam for boost? That's the second time I've heard of going with a conventional grind. I don't subscribe to Hot Rod mag, but is the LSA still 110 or is it a custom grind? I yanked a XE274 cam out of my car, because I was told it wasn't boost friendly.
Sorry to hear the motor blew on you, mine broke a rod in half after I added boost but it went while starting the car with only 6 pounds, so my engine didn't blow in a "blaze of glory" lol. -But it's good now after dropping another grand into it.

Re: supercharged vortech gta
hey man, yeah i've been ont he boards since 99 also.. and thank you for the comments!
my last cam was a conventional grind on a 110, ran like a raped ape. I did alot of reasearch and reading and had it custom ground. i also talked to some old school guys who always made BIG power adding a blower on top of a conventional 106-110 cam. I know everyone thinks 114's and 116's are better for boost (to build cylinder pressure), but you want flow too and you lose some flow. you can endup with more boost, less power and more chance of breakage. hot rods article prety much just confirmed what i thought.
talking about blower cars still, there really are a ton of other factors to consider, ie: car type, driving style or race? exhaust/head flow and backpressure... lots of stuff... anyways, as far as i'm concerned, 116's are smoother, better vacuum etc. better for computer controlled cars. 110's are snappier and have a better output through the working rpm range, less boost but more flow. boost doesnt make power, FLOW does. think of the engine as a big pump....116's hold valves closed longer and build pressure... also, other cam specs like duration and lift are related to which lca to chose. the end all for me is that i lean towards mean 110 race cams over streetable 116's to make the power... alll in all you're not talking about much of a difference anyways. once you have a blower, you're making serious power no matter what cam you run.. there are alot of other things that are important too, like a good tune and a properly dialed suspension. if it's a streetcar, you're not gonna put the power down anyways. just my opinion.

-Couldn't agree more on having a properly dialed in suspension. I still can't get power to the ground without spinning. I'm looking into seeing what I need to do to get decent traction while the car is down over the winter. - Good luck on the new engine. Should be a beast! See you around as I troll on the board. lol

92 fbirdvert. thankyou!
confuzed. i read your sig. looks like a killer setup. i didnt look into your cam specs ( i'm no expert anyways), but i also did a spilt with more duration on the exhaust side.... i think i WAS running a 230/236 510/510? on a 108 or a 110..... but that was the old setup that i just broke 355cu.. as i said i made ALOT of power. the reason i had gone relatively small with the cam was that I was computer controlled when i built the motor. the xe282 is much bigger. i cant wait to put it together with my mighty demon 750 and the 383
