Help me decide
Help me decide
I was running a HSR setup with my twins, but I have the engine out AGAIN for some more improvements/mods. I was thinking of swaping to a single plane efi setup I had lying around so I built a custom air box for it, but I am not sure how I like it. With the new air box I am going to have to run a cowl hood or something. I think no matter what, the single plane intake is going to require a different hood regardless of the airbox design. The single plane intake should make more power and have better air/fuel distribution and is using a 1500cfm throttle body. Here are some pics, please give me some feedback.

the hsr looks alot cleaner, i would say keep the hsr. i really like your setup very clean!

Plus I like keeping it all under the stock hood...sleeper.

First, I think you did a very good job on that custom intake, I would use it IF i didnt have an HSR already.

I think you should keep the HSR, but that's only I'm biased maybe. I like the custom intake but for some reason, it just doesn't fit the car. Maybe make it a bit narrower and a lot taller, then it would fit the car.

Re: Help me decide
I like the HSR better but only if the air distribution is somewhat even. But you are using Gen 7 to tune it so its full sequential right? Do you have control to each injector? you can offset the fuel bias for any air distribution problems you may encounter with the HSR.
I ditched my HSR for singleplane because i got scared of the distribution problems since I planned on using batch fire code $59 to tune it. I saw the difference in flow on the n/a 383 i had, so boost I wasnt sure what would happen.
Just monitor each cylinder by checking plugs i guess and see what happens.

Yes I can offset each injector through the Gen 7 so I guess I could do that. It is running in sequential mode as well.
Orr how do you like your single plane?
Does anyone know how much hp the HSR will support? I would venture to guess quite a bit.

Re: Help me decide
However I like the HSR look even more. Kinda wish i would have tried it. I dont think you will have a limit of power with the HSR, as it flows around 265-275 cfm per runner, which rivals alot of the single planes.
In fact, a recent post by 1989GTATransAm shows how different single plane runners can be in flow. Some runners show about 40cfm difference!! Makes me sick to the point I want to send mine off to porting to even things up. Matter of fact I may do this sometime soon while I upgrade a bunch of other things. My ultimate goal however is to end up with a custom sheet metal intake with front mount throttlebody. It will have taper so the rear cylinders will be fed an appropriate amount of air compared to the front.
HSR i dont see much deviation between runners as they are about the same. There are 4 runners that are straight shot to the head port, and 4 runners that have a slight curve in them. Those 4 will be the lower flowing ports but with mild cleaning up with the grinder, you can easily open up the choke point to closer match the cross sectional area of the other runners. I did this with my HSR, using a wrench as a "feeler" gauge to check width at various points.
Single plane just makes working on the car abit easier. Easy acess to bolts and distributor as well as vacuum ports. Get a custom intake elbow made with as many ports as you need to customize your setup. Great for turbo builds which need extra reference points
