Re: Ebay turbo build

Well I'm no expert but the Ebay Turbo kits generally work but they are not smooth installations. The turbo manifolds usually leave something to be desired and many of the other parts are junk. The turbos themselves are Chinese knock offs but some people to get good results with them. There is no telling how long they'll last though.

I can see the attraction of these kits but frankly you get what you pay for. I'd go look for some used BBS Designs turbo headers if you don't want to custom build them yourself and get a real turbo from a reputable manufacturer.

Re: Ebay turbo build

Turbonetics and Garrett seem to be the most popular choices for turbos. I'm looking at the Turbonetics T-76 myself.

Re: Ebay turbo build

If you want to use Ebay manifolds they are a great cost saver... But I would have a welder REINFORCE them, heat them up in all the welded areas and add filler material, careful not to overheat them, find someone that is good at welding stainless (poor quality material at that!)

they will look ugly as hell, but they are great templates for the cost.

Re: Ebay turbo build

if u want to go ebay setup i recomend getting the twin turbo front mount headers.not the ones that go over the valve covers. the ds eader will need a lil modification to clear the steering arm.

then use those to build a crossover tube to a single turbo. guys over n the turbo forums have been using those ebay headers this way for a while and have had great success with them.

and if u wanted to stick with an ebay turbo check this out

76mm turbo for 330 shiped
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-Per...item20b0e411ea

much better deal then the ebay gt45 for 300 which is only a 68mm turbo

Re: Ebay turbo build

first of all thanks alot for the help

I was told that i should make them stronger i will see about finding a guy over here to weld them up a little stronger. My uncle told me i could run a extra bar for support from were the turbo bolts on to the block or to the frame if i used solid motor mounts. He said it should help with it, because the turbos are pretty heavy and they are just hanging out there by just the header.

I wondered about those 76mm units. It doesn't say if it is 76mm inducer or exducer. Has anyone around here had one in their hands that they measured. I am curious what the exhaust wheel is too.
If it really is a 76mm inducer with a decent exhaust wheel then that is a good deal with the 1.04 A/R turbine.

Re: Ebay turbo build

The picture of the 76mm inducer shows it has those funky holes in the housing. They look cool, but I only see them disrupting airflow and making the compressor less efficient. I don't know why they put them there because you can't see them with an air filter on it.

Zexy, the only reinforcement the ssautochrome headers need is the crossover itself if you decide to go with a single turbo setup. They crack, but the headers themselves are very strong for what they are. Don't get me wrong, reinforcing them won't necessarily hurt, but then again it just might if your welder messes them up. Now, the fitment itself will vary, as the last set that we worked on didn't line up with the ports, but that is an easy fix though, just weld a bead in the flange where needed, and smooth it out. On older sets, one of the primaries needs to be shortened closer to the flange where the steering shaft is, but the newer sets seem to be okay now w/the single turbo setups, haven't looked at the twin turbo sets recently, but its an easy fix. My buddy Carmello is running an ebay single turbo setup on his Mazda RX7 running a Buick 3.8 Turbo engine, and he just ran 9.80 trapping over 140-mph @ 30-psi w/T-76. Very heavy turbo, and EGT's get very high at that boost level (which I doubt you will ever see w/your setup), and the header did not weaken anywhere, not one bit, and it wasn't reinforced anywhere. The only thing that was replaced on his particular setup was, you guessed it, the crossover, and he has mega passes on it to date.....

Re: Ebay turbo build

I would like to put that kit on my GTA even. I bet it would make my healthy L98 pull like no other... This kit, SLP runners, some plenum porting, and a new intake manifold would be a monster... imagine punching it from a stoplight with the tires just screaming, smoke pouring out, and the the turbos just whistling away... How hard would this kit be to install for a beginner. I would have the turbo headers installed by someone else, would everything else be easy?

Re: Ebay turbo build

subscribing... i have a 91 TA vert with a 305 TPI that I'm considering boosting so I'm interested to see how this plays out. Do you think it would be worthwhile on my car?
