Third Gen Needed For Mock Up

Wondering if anyone in Massachusetts knows of a R.I.P. Third Gen, so Jon at LT1boost.net can build a turbo kit around it's engine bay/frame.

Just figured I'd put it up here, in case someone knows of a third gen in Massachusetts or surrounding area that would be cheap or free.

Jon having a third gen in his shop would result in him being able to build single and twin turbo kits for our cars with TPI's and LT1's and probably LS1's, too.

I'm going to talk to Jon about being a supporting vendor for Thirdgen.org, too. That could be a good deal for everyone involved.

Food for thought.

Re: Third Gen Needed For Mock Up

does he need it to keep, or just do a mock-up? does it need to have an engine in it?

Hey how's it going? He just needs the car. I'm pretty sure he has an LT1 that he can use to fabricate the turbo piping into and around the third gen chassis.

Re: Third Gen Needed For Mock Up

Keep in mind that different years have different accessory configurations.. specifically the serpentine vs the v-belt setups swap the location of the alternator and AC compressor, which changes the AC line routing and more. Also there are significant differences in the firebird, such as a battery being located on the opposite side (in some years at least). And with such tight areas on either side of the exhaust manifolds, cars with the oil cooler have less room for the down pipe and cross-over pipe.

I think these differences are the main reason there isn't any official turbo kit available for our cars. If someone would go through the trouble of doing it right though, a ton of money could be made.

Re: Third Gen Needed For Mock Up

True, and if someone had a dead third gen Z28, and the guy built me a turbo kit for my LT1 setup (serpentine without AC and relocated alternator), he could probably mock up a kit for the V-belt and possibly for other configurations such as AC and non AC, stock alternator location, etc. Mine won't have AC. I don't need it here in Wyoming

Him getting ANY third gen would be a great start for sure, and yeah, making some kits availabe for our cars with or without swaps would be a great business.

He already has the piping configured for inside the engine bay of any LT1 engined 4th gen....his main concern is the intercooler piping, from what he told me.
