Superharger... HELP ME!

ok i scored a roots style supercharger i was told it was an old style weiend blower its a 6-71 but beyond that i know nothing about it... i dont have alot of experiance i know how they work and what they do but beyond that im lost. if some1 could give me some direction i need to know who would make a lower manfold for it or if there is a lower manifold for it... he told me it needed new seal cuz it leaked oil... also it looks like it has a double v belt pulley instead of a traditional drive belt pully. just any info any1 can provide would be awesome! im not looking fo it to make alot of boost maybe 2 or 3 lbs im manily doin this for looks and the sound my car has a sbc 400 mildly built about 500hp it has forged bottom end.. i just dont wanna lotta boost.

Re: Superharger... HELP ME!

Using a double V is smart but only used as the serp setup wasn't around yet, as with that kind of set up, if there is a hickup, the belt can slip.
With a cogg set up, no slip and damage can happen.

It does look old

Re: Superharger... HELP ME!

cant really help you but why only a few lbs of boost? if your motor is prepared for it and your not going be using nitrous or anything why not crank up the boost a lil? personally it doesnt make to much since to me since im sure you all ready have sloppy gas mileage.

Re: Superharger... HELP ME!

Yeah it was free... So I thought I would give it a shot.. The impellers are very tight not alot of play and it spins very well I just can't find any info on it thanks for the link I will give then acall. And because the motor isn't really built to handle boost... It's just a mildly built 400 def not built to handle boost...

Re: Superharger... HELP ME!

looks like the impellers are scored up in the one pic too it will affect the performance of the sc. plus even your mildly built 400 will handle more than 2-3 lbs of boost it is a smaller series blower should be at least fine up to around to 7-8 lbs but your call I wouldn't even put it on for 2-3 lbs.

Yeah they aren't as bad as they look they were just dirty. But one is scored in one spot bu. As long as it looks and sounds good idc about performance gains.

I would make sure you at least buff the scouring out some so that way it is chipping any and throwing shards of steel into your engine.

Re: Superharger... HELP ME!

I'm thinking bout sending it to the blower shop they do rebuild for about 350 bucks. And I will just have them get It ready I'm tryinnto figure out the model and all cuz it dosent have a lower manifold... So i don't know how to go about fittin it up to the motor.

Re: Superharger... HELP ME!

looks like you are probably right on the 6-71 so you just need a 6-71 to sbc manifold. but I would probably send it out and let them rebuild it so you don't have leaks all over it from the seals being bad. I would change out the pulley also.

Re: Superharger... HELP ME!

Some1 said it may be a 6v-71???? Not sure what the diff is. But yeah I will def send it off and them look at it. And I planned on changing it out a large single Lully with a big 2 or 3in belt. Like I said his is mainly for looks.

I enjoy the fact that you claim to only have a "mildly built" 400 that makes over 500 hp and has a forged bottom end. I would like to see your definition of a "built" engine.

Re: Superharger... HELP ME!

Ha idk with technology these days 500hp ain't much... And idk.... By definition I would say I 600ci big block 14:1 with huge shot of gas or a blower making 14-1500hp or more... They only reason I used forged rotating assymbly is bc I had this motor in a mud truck that saw alot of Rrrrs!

Re: Superharger... HELP ME!

It looks to me like a 4-71 blower that has had the lower mounting flange chopped off. The 3rd pic shows marks in the metal where the wider base used to protrude. For some reason there's a second front cover mounted on the rear, in place of a bearing cover, this makes the blower appear a but longer, more like a 6-71.
Mounting it to a manifold is going to be tricky with the case hacked up as it is. You might be better off trying to adapt it to a 4 bbl manifold rather than a traditional blower manifold.

I reckon it'll look great with the case tidied up a bit and maybe resprayed with a black crinkle finish, with contrasting polished bits!

Looks like something I saw on an inboard boat application a few years ago.
