MPG loss from supercharger

I have to tear apart my Procharged 350, I was thinking of putting a mild street cam in the motor and pulling the supercharger. Do you think this would improve my overall mileage? I'm not sure how much you lose from the supercharger while just cruising nicely?

Re: MPG loss from supercharger

It has a Crower blower cam in it, I'm guessing it pretty much a stock cam. I was just wondering if the supercharger was hurting my MPG really bad while I'm just cruising.

I'm getting 8 town/ 15 freeway. But, I just pulled the plugs and they are BLACK. I'm going to play with the tune some, but I need to learn this Accel VII some first I think.

Sorry but this thread makes me laugh. Supercharger and concerned about fuel mileage.

Re: MPG loss from supercharger

As long as you 'stay out of it', any additional loading on the engine from spinning the supercharger during normal easy driving would be insignificant. On the far side I would say on the order 1-2 mpg, but most likely less. Any other mileage reductions in mileage to 8/15 indicate a serious problem... most likely a bad case of leadfootusitus. It's ok though, we understand - staying out of boost is impossible when it is available. The other half of your problem is answered by your plug diagnosis. Get a wideband O2 and tune it right and you'll see 20+.

With my turbo I get 21+ hwy and around town well into the mid teens, and that's testing the boost maker quite frequently.

Re: MPG loss from supercharger

Well, I started this thread because I was curious how much MPG you lose from just the parasitic drag of the supercharger system... I was wondering how much difference I would get if I removed the supercharger and ran it NA. Seems the consensus is 1-2MPG due to the losses from the belt and pulley.

Re: MPG loss from supercharger

I always wondered how MadMax configuered that clutch on his blower?

would that not reduce parasitic drag?

Re: MPG loss from supercharger

Clutched superchargers are nothing new. All Mercedes Kompressors are clutched super chargers. I have also install clutched superchargers on new BMW M3's. They were making 450 WHP with them.
