thinking about turbocharging my car

so i dont know much at all about turbos because i havent had a chance to work with one yet. i have a 91 camaro with a 2 bolt main tbi 350 that came out of a 92 1500.

i was wondering if it was possible to install a turbo in it as long as i dont exceed around 7 pounds of boost (this is what i have heard from other people)?

and what all would i need to do tune the ecm properly?

and do you think this would work? http://stlouis.craigslist.org/pts/2208108533.html

thanks alot,
scott

Re: thinking about turbocharging my car

Personally, I'd avoid Craigslist when it comes to power adders. I've bought a few things off of there, such as an offroad X pipe, a front bumper. Heck, I bought my Mustang from a Craigslist ad. But, I got to see it run and drive for about 10-15 miles before buying it, can't exactly bolt up a turbo and test run it before buying in most cases.

Try ebay, at least you can check out their selling history.

You could also piece together your own kit.

This site would put you in the right direction.

Re: thinking about turbocharging my car

I plan on going the turbo route for my IROC later on but I will first buy a new engine kit (more likely a stroker kit) and just have my whole engine replaced because with a used 20+ year old engine I don't trust the power adder not blowing a piston or rod out or threw the block. So it's a good idea to do that and to have forged engine parts too.

Re: thinking about turbocharging my car

to install a turbocharger on a car to only make 7lbs of boost is not worth it.
could your engine, trans, rearend and chassis handle almost 50% increase in power????

Re: thinking about turbocharging my car

Well 7 psi isn't a lot but I think it's well worth it. I was running 8.6 in the 1/8 at 8 psi, coming from 9.30's NA. Besides, no one will stay at 7 psi when there is a wastegate that can be adjusted to 10!

As the OP's questions though, all of this has been discussed in previous posts and in quite recent ones at that.
