Is this a good carb hat? Or should I just go with an EV hat

I want to get a great hat. not a good one, a great one. People always seem to say that the hat really helps straighten the flow and make the carb see the charged air better and metter fuel more precicly. I want to make sure I get that.

Does this Procharger hat look good. I ask cuz I found it used for $175. Should I drop the extra cash on a new Extreame Velocity hat and call it a day?????????????????????

I ran the EV hat with 1" spacer with no carb fuel distribution issues.

The Procharger hat will work fine for the street.....if it was strictly race car....I would opt for the EV Pro-Series hat.....it is the best out there....

Re: Is this a good carb hat? Or should I just go with an EV hat

No idea what I should do. I still don't have a good read on how much clearance I have. Motor is still waiting to go in. I am running a 3" Cervini hood.

Guess I should wait until I have the motor in and can take some measurments. If the EV is the best, out there and that is what people all seem to agree on, then screw the Procharger one. I will stick with what is proven. I am done pinching pennies now, but to end up having to buy the better one later.

I can see the small difference in shape of the pro and the standard, what size difference is there? Also whats up with the divider? I know why it is there, but for a street car trying to make around 700HP should I worry about it? I know the dividers help straighten the flow, but if I am not clocking the hat... Actually, better question, should I clock the hat and buy the hat with dividers, or screw it, but the hat on however, and buy a no divider hat?

That is the #1 question for me now.

Great to see some guys in here running big SC!
Can't wait for this summer!

The EV Pro-Series hat is 4.75" tall and has a 4" inlet...it does not have a divider in it,so you can clock it in any position you want and you dont have to run a spacer of any kind. The regular EV hat has a divider and is 3.75" tall and has a 3.50" inlet...but you cant clock it in any direction without a spacer because the inlet will hit the float adjustments screws on a holley and the divider inside will hit the bowl vent tubes.

I talked with Steve Morris about the Pro-Series hat and he said it gained 30hp through out the whole power band on the dyno over a regular EV hat...that was the only change made...and he also said the Pro-Series had better fuel distribution than the regular EV that had the divider.

We run a CSU hat on our car currently...it doesnt have a divider either...it seems to work well, but the Pro-Series EV is still the better hat... If you have enough clearance I would definatley go with the EV Pro-Series hat since you have to buy it anyway..you wont have to ever wonder why you didnt go with it in the first place...when you do decide to buy it later..lol

by the way...I have been following your build on here and it sounds like its gonna make big power...and with a T-56? WOW!! its gonna be fun....

Thanks for the advice. I will call up EV, see what they have to say as well, then drop my motor in and measure clearance. Lets hope the Pro fits.

I will post pics of it all here so you guys can tell me what you think.

procharged GTA.,

I have a 91 formula with a 434. I removed the accel super ram TPI set up that was on it and am installing a brodix hi rise with the super sniper.
Im running a vortec V1 that i need to pipe to a carb hat.

how did you run your tubing to your carb? Did you get it under your hood?

thanks Terryy

From what I remember the Procharger Hat *is* an EV hat. Obviously not the pro one though.

the tight radius kills flow, so you want the longest radius that will still fit under a hood. the mono blade ls type throttle body on a cast elbow is better for flow due to the radius situation on top of a carb type setup.
