Re: Trying out a Small Turbo
well if the hotpipes work on ur car it thats not a bad price
but that turbo goes for 450 bucks on ebay
wastegates about 50 bucks each
the blue tag and gold compressor nut on the compressor side are a dead giveaway
the tag says gsp on it
gsp sells the typhon 72mm turbo and the t76 turbo along with others on ebay
u apear to have the 72mm typhon turbo

YIKES! Someone cut off the outlet flange. I hope you can get a hose & clamp on the end to hold the charge pipe on there.
Not the nicest welds but it looks like they will hold.

yeah may need a bead welded around that discharge area to get a good clamp connection. Alittle bit of a grinding wheel to rough up the surface and alittle hairspray or some sort of rtv sticky material to help hold it on would help with a good T-clamp.

Junkcltr- ya I'm gonna try cleaning up those welds, and re fab some of the pipes with my own worm welds haha. And ya I was kinda disappointed they cut it off. I'll figure it out when I get closer to getting the turbo on.
Orr- ya i may have to try something like that.

Re: Trying out a Small Turbo
I think if you weld a bead on the end like Orr said then it will be fine. If that is a copy of a GT4294 then that turbo should be almost 70mm which is plenty big enough. I wouldn't worry about the welds. It looks like schedule 40 pipe. Maybe just clean them up with a grinder if you don't like the looks of them.

Re: Trying out a Small Turbo
ok, so im trying to get a few things figured out. im doing it out of either my dads garage or my moms apartment garage, so i dont have anything nice like a tig welder,....
im using my brothers wire feed welder, and it has some flux cord wire in it, will it be fine welding stainless steel?
also, those wastegates, should i look into some different ones since those are "ebay" ones? or will they be alright
and the other thing is im not sure what size injector im gonna run. i asked the guy i bought the turbo from and he thought i should go with a 90lb low impedance injector.. what do any of u guys think?
if u guys could give me some advice i would apreciate it. ive welded before but not stainless steel stuff, and dont wanna be trying to weld something that wont weld if that is the case..
here is some of the specs of my setup, for thinking what injector size-
383 AFR 195s, GT4294 wanna run 10-15 lbs, (starting out around 7lbs), not sure on the cam specs, ummm.... im gonna buy the Holley Hp Efi system, Aeromotive A1000, sump, 8AN feed, 6AN return, holley stealth ram, .. that about all i can think of.
let me know what u guys think.
THANKS!!!

High impedance will be fine with code 59 if you use that. Dont recall what you ended up using?

I'd run something like my old cam, single pattern 230 deg or so on a 112-113 and call it a day.
Comp cams magnum 280 hydraulic roller but on a 112-113 would be a nice streetable smooth cam for a turbo car IMO.

Re: Trying out a Small Turbo
i never did tune it, but im gonna give the holley system a shot. also, how much did ur 80lb injectors cost? and whats a good place to shop injectors?
guess ill give it a shot. see how it turns out.
im gonna stick with the cam thats in there for now, then save up and buy something else. but ill keep that in mind when i do look at cams.

im sure the wastegates will be fine ive used a bunch of the ebay stuff and never had any issues with any of the stuff.
except for one time i took out a seal in a turbo but it was my fault for not using an oil restictor on a motor that made 105+ psi of oil presure

Re: Trying out a Small Turbo
Think I will be alright? I've seen my motor get around 90psi when I start getting on it. After It heats up it will drop but some few times I've seen it that high.

Re: Trying out a Small Turbo
u shoudl be fine, u dont want be boosting the motor soon as u start it up anyways, so by the time ur motor warms up and oil presure drops it should be in a good range.
in ur case i would run a -3 an feed line instead of a -4 an feed line.
i never was a fan of running a restrictor on a joural bearing turbo

Re: Trying out a Small Turbo
Can't say anything about ebay turbos, but as for the wastegates your probably fine IF you check it over well first. I've disassembled a few of them and tolerances and overall quality appear good. Where they falter is part cleanup and assembly. I've seen casting flash and machined edges that need touching up first on every one that I've looked at. Disassemble, clean it up, re-lube and you're good to go.
