camshaft selection on turbo build

so the motor will be a 355 8.3:1 compression, motown 220 heads and a victor jr intake. at this point im not sure on if im doing single or twins. i have a single turbo header and im having project89 price out making me a set of twin headers. planning on running max of 14psi on pump gas

as far as cam goes im looking at either a summit 224/224 cam or this comp cams mechanical roller.

http://www.jegs.com/i/Comp-Cams/249/...oductId=758230

my heads are already set up for mechanical roller cams and i have the lifters and roller rockers already so the difference in price is $200. my main concern was that i wouldnt be taking full advantage of the flow capabilities of the heads at .465 lift.

as far as streetability goes, i would like it to...

want to idle

i dont care about fuel economy and how often i have to lash the valves either. ive done it before and can do it again.

oh, other important stuff- trans, i will be switching to a glide with 4k stall and 3.42 gears

Call Mike Jones and talk to him about your build. He will be able to grind you something that is suitable for your goals. Shelf cams are for people that are lazy, and you're only hurting your drivability/power potential by using them... all while paying the same price.

Re: camshaft selection on turbo build

Set your power goal and rpm range and then look for the cam thru one of the custom guys. What kind of exhaust side you plan on using? Log mani vs actual tube headers will change cam spec because of backpressure expected. Turbine spec as well, blade diameter and housing a/r etc

Re: camshaft selection on turbo build

Im torn between 2 motors right now, i have a 406 that has 9:1 compression already but has hyper pistons and the 355 which will need pistons regardless. I am free to use either one and im not sure which one. I have decided to use e85 since it is hard to find a set of off the shelf pistons under 8:1 compression with 64cc heads. If i go the twin route with the 406 i will use twin t70s. either way i am looking at similar build costs.

What compression should i shoot for with iron heads and e85?

Re: camshaft selection on turbo build

10 to 1 would work ok for under 15 psi. 406 will make tons more power and torque across the curve and require slightly bigger cam than the 350 for same rpm range.

Re: camshaft selection on turbo build

ordering pistons tomorrow, decided on these pistons

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/dms-2507x-155

they will put me at 9.25:1 assuming zero deck but i wont have it zero decked to help lower compression( bad part is it will put me out of the .040 optimum quench)

also a set of gapless file fit rings and bearings. the engine already has eagle i beams with arp wavelocs so it should be ok if i keep the revs under 6k

on a side note im having one of my dads buddys come give me a qoute on painting the car, color is crimson red metallic
