Intercooler sizing for 383 with S475
Intercooler sizing for 383 with S475
I'm tossing the idea of throwing an s475 on my car and I've done a little reading through some build threads, but I'm just asking for opinions on what size intercooler works best for a 'bird.
These two from treadstone look promising, but i'm thinking the 4.5" core might be a little tough to fit. They both seem a little small for the theoretical numbers I've been tossing around (900hp at 17psi provided my engine can move that much air). Again, that's just numbers the calculators have spit out, I won't be too disappointed unless it only makes like 550 rwhp lol.
That said, what do you guys think of these two options? Feel free to give me other suggestions.

You can probably squeeze that big one between the front frame rails if you cut the ront crash bar section out. I run the big twin turbo cooler thats 25x9x3.5" core and it fits perfect but i have a camaro with no grille so open to airflow. For a bird it may be more difficult to get air through there.
Will need to take measurements and decide from there. Theres room to fit stuff if you are willing to cut things and make it fit lol

I would definitely be willing to fab up something like the Burkhart chassis bumper support a lot of fourth gen guys have. That thicker core intercooler is the highest hp efficient cooler I saw on their site that has tanks on the sides instead of top and bottom, which adds considerable cost. I might have to get creative to get some more airflow up from the bottom of the bumper...
What's your ballpark guess on power with the s475 on my AFR 195 headed 11:1 383 running e85? I will be getting a 1.1 AR T4 hotside since I want it to spool at a nice low RPM

T4 will light it up pretty quickly on that setup. How big is the turbine wheel and what cam?
Turbine size could restrict upper rpm hp depending on which one you have, but that turbo should be good for 800-900 hp. I dont see why it couldnt match or beat my old 400 with the same heads. Extra compression and e85 will make more hp. 800 on 14-15 psi easily with good tune

Yeah i'd say 800-850 hp with 14-15 psi. That combo should move and be very responsive. Similar cam and same heads as my 400 on pump gas and you have 11:1 and e85. Becareful with too much boost tho, even tho thats e85 fuel its still a good amount of compression. My car was around 800-850 crank hp 14-16 psi boost judging by 141 mph traps at atleast 3600 lbs
