Pro Comp Alum Heads BBC

So... i've got a friend that keeps drilling me into trying to buy a set of pro comp alum heads.... they are 800 new for the pair complete.

i've asked a few local people that they are garbage you would have better luck with a good set of cast heads.

well here is my plans.

high compression 9.1 - 12.1 depending on what head and compression i go with...

dome pistons / forge, 6.353 rods / H beams. / stock crank. refresh bottom end with high vol oil pump.

1000CFM Quick Fuel e-85 carb.

i may shoot it with nitrous if i cant get that 12 second mark....but i should with those goals.

they arent that bad if u get new stock, the problem with them is most of the the time they are assembled with pure junk valves and springs.

best bet is to buy a bare set and get ur own valves springs locks retianers studs etc

Um if you cant manage 12s with a bbc with ported big ovals on motor you have issues. Car craft did an article about a 454 with tame compression and lightly worked peanut ports that still made 440hp at the flywheel. Jmo way over complicating it if you have a decent set of heads. If you spray shoot for single digits.

well, at the moment i have peanut ports. i wanted to step away from them, want to make more power. i keep getting told changing the heads will make a major difference with the build.

Yeah, find some big ovals. If you use the peanut ports even a stocker intake is better than the edelbrock peanut port intake from what i have read, and you can supposedly stick a big oval intake on.

Re: Pro Comp Alum Heads BBC

My only real problem with procomp heads is their flow number suck for the size of their ports.
