Over my head with my 85 Supercharged carbed Camaro

I bought this Camaro when I was 20, now I'm 28. I basically jumped into a basket case from day 1 and sold it to my father when I finally gave up and ran out ofmoney. He never really did much other than start it time to time.

It was a very modded EFI system with older Accel DFI 6.0. I literally couldn't figure it out, after researching and talking with a few local "racers" I got the genius idea to scrap the complicated fuel injection...sell it off and put a blow thru carb on it. It had 36lb injectors on it and I think that was my problem from day 1.

Car ran great at low RPM, with the carb (really really great) but starved out top end. I now know it was because I was using a big aftermarket EFI fuel pump.

First thing I'm going to do when I get it back is drain the tank, put in a fuel pump that you guys recommend and see where I stand. I have big plans for it this time, I have money and a truck I daily drive.

Can you guys give me some pointers? I'm jumping back into the evil beast

Nothing wrong with the pump, as long as you have a good regulator, to keep it at a steady pressure. I'm using an Aeromotive Eliminator pump, with a 13212 regulator, it has a return line, and is set at about 7psi

The carb needs to be set up for boost. If it isn't, the power valve(s) wont open at higher RPM (when the supercharger is creating boost) and you will run lean. This isn't a big deal at idle because you aren't really creating any boost. Also, the regulator should be set up to increase fuel pressure as boost increases. Most higher end regulators have this option.

Where do you live? Hard to imagine there isn't a good shop within driving distance that could help you.

Yes, forgot to add, my regulator is boost referenced to increase the fuel pressure by 1 psi per 1 pound of boost

I'm 75 miles east of dallas on Lake Fork. If there is a shop around I would not mind dropping some dime getting it to run right.

It has a blow through demon carb on it, just never ran correctly.

SNL Performance is the the Dallas area. I have no personal experience with them, but I have heard lots of good stories on LS1tech. Wouldn't hurt to give them a call to discuss. If they can't help you, they probably know someone who can.

Re: Over my head with my 85 Supercharged carbed Camaro

K guys, little update. Got it road worthy. Running very well on 93 octane, I just purchased a vortech bypass valve (for 0-8lbs of boost) and need to change the plumbing from the supercharger to carb. Anyone have any idea what I should use here? Just regular ol' exhaust piping?

I'm having very few issues at the moment, runs like a champ.

EBay aluminum intercooler tubes, silicone couplers n tbolt clamps.
Doesn't look like a long stretch. Should find what u need on ebay. A couple of pre bent tubes that are close to match what you have now and trim to fit accordingly

Do not use exhaust pipe. Not sure what size you need, so I am using a 3" 90 degree bend as an example. Whatever size you go with, measure, cut, then have someone re-roll the ends again for proper sealing. Then get some new couplers...
