money to blow

Alright guys. Bone stock 305 auto 86 camaro. And finally have money to put into it. Which would be the best bang for my buck. Rear end gears+posi, making it a 5 speed (fun but pain in the butt) orrrr dropping a 350

Re: money to blow

If your going to build the 305 without a power adder, your going to need to rev it to make any real power out of it, as well as gearing it appropriately. If you have money to blow, I would just build the 305 with a decent heads and cam package, and depending on the compression ratio, run either a turbo or nitrous to get you where you want to go...

Not knowing how much you have to "blow", I would go with an LS-7/ 4L80E swap.

Re: money to blow

You guys do realize we're in the Power Adder Section right...?

Money to blow, we need to assume he means money for forced induction...

Ive got a T5 conversion for $650

How much power do you plan to make? Whats your budget? Whats your skill level? What are the long term plans for the car?

Re: money to blow

If you're going to be making more than 200 ft lbs, you don't want a t5, get a t56.

Long term id be satisfied with a built 350 and a t56. But at the moment im.not willing to spend the money on a t56. I just cant drive an ato anymore. My civics more fun to.drive cause its a 5 speed. But my skill levels more then average. We have acess to a full body shop. Me and a couple friends did it to one of his 88 rx7s. And the same friends would be helping lol. But id be the leader on my own car so thats why i was wondering what would be the struggle cause with us it was pretty straight forward besides a different driveshaft

If T56's are out of budget you might want to put any major upgrades on hold until after school is over. Been there, done the broke college kid thing and it does suck, but you just need to get through it. Modify all you want once disposable income increases

FWIW, driveshaft doesnt change from 700R4 to T5 to T56

Re: money to blow

Heads and cam with a Stealth Ram would probably be a good investment for you. The HSR will carry over to the 350, possibly the heads and cam as well, if you pick them correctly.

Re: money to blow

Grab a junkyard turbo out of a powerstroke, turn your manifolds around, and run it on race gas till it pops.

But seriously, if you're not willing to spend the money on a t56, you'll either have to stick with an auto or risk blowing up your t5 with anything more than a mild 305.
