Early T/A or Formula hood with a ProCharger?
Early T/A or Formula hood with a ProCharger?
I'm a way off still (end of next summer) from doing my ProCharger install but this winter I'm doing body work and trying to think ahead...
I see allot of people with ProChargers on the drivers side with just a giant K&N cone style filter on the back of it right over the exhaust/valve cover.
Had anyone with a Firebird taken an early Trans Am/Formula style hood and created an air box/ducting for the ProCharger to suck in pure cold air from this in front of the windshield? It really doesn't seem that difficult of a project to fab something up, make a fiberglass mold or something, and build a custom duct in CF or similar. Make a thick rubber gasket for when the engine twists, of course gutting the factory opening flap and it would be a no rain only setup.
Anyone have pics of a setup like this? Any reasons you can possibly think of for why this wouldn't work? I realize the Formula scoop if towards the center more than over the drivers exhaust header but still, it seems doable to a certain extent if not too much of the scoop is right over the TPI plenum (I'll be keeping my TPI). Perhaps an aftermarket fiberglass hood with a Formula scoop grafted into it more towards the drivers side would be a much better start?

If you can ceramic coat your headers, everything will be happier under the hood...
