Performance cams in stock heads?

I bought performance edelbrock cams for my 305. Do I need any other mods for them to work? Do they bolt up and run ? Help is greatly appreciated

86 trans am firebird stock 305 v8,

that's a big cam. You'll need to at least swap springs, but you might need to cut down the guides/use different valve stem seals to get more seal to retainer clearance.

That's to physically get it in there. To get it to run right, that's a whole different story. What 305 do you have in it? The short ilst is that you'll at least need a high flowing in intake, headers (bigger heads would help) and some means of tuning for it (I doubt that you'll get the stock ECM running right if it's an LB9). That cam is going to want a lot more than stock compression, somewhere in the range of 11:1 or more.
