My New Engine Build Plan
As some of you may know my old engine finally died. It was a 5.7L, 100% stock long block, unopenend and unmolested since GM assembly line put it in my GTA's engine bay.
My new build consists of a fresh 4 bolt block, 1pc, roller, bored to 4.060". Rotating assembly consist for now of a new GM Performance forged 3.48 crank, new Eagle H-Beam 5.7 rods. Still undecided on what pistons to use, definately forged, but not sure if going for the flat top with low boost or dished and medium boost setup. My goal is 500-600rwhp which is easily achieveable, but keep in mind this is not meant for a 10 second drag race, it will be for Solo1's and Time Attack races which can be up to 30 minutes each. As for the heads I'll probabbly go with relatively cheap Trick Flows 215cc runner heads and a shaft mounted valve train assembly. As for the cam, I'm not completely sure if I should go for the solid roller or hydraulic roller, but one thing keeping me out of the solid setup is the fact that the turbo has to be removed for passenger's valve cover removal, hence adjusting valve to rocker clearance will be a bit more complicated. Any suggestions?

Good spring with good morel lifters will work great in a hyd roller with those shaft rockers. You can set perfect geometry with those rockers. Hyd roller easily will make the power. Dont need an aggressive lobe either.
215 heads seem alittle large for what you are doing but will work fine.
Piston wise any good forged setup. Gap extra large for long term abuse. For longer term cooling in boost, it makes sense to run less boost as possible. Reduces intercooler demand. Wouldnt tax it as much.

I agree with Orr, a good 195cc head would be better for what your doing. Hyd roller will also meet your needs, somewhere in the 227/227 dur range with a good lifters. I'm using Comps short travel lifters with no issues at all. Give Martin at Tick Performance a call to help spec a cam for you, he helped get my car running pretty good.
