Can you run an aftermarket chip with NOS?
In the directions of the NOS 5151 Kit it says to use the stock PROM to avoid spark advance that will result in detonation. If I install my TPIS PLevel 4 PROM back into the ECU will that spell doom for the engine?
i woudl say put a stock chip back in the car. a lot of the stage 1 and 2 chips are mostly adjusted fuel curves and very mild spark curve changes. once you get beyond the basic hypertech, jet, or superchip off the shelf model you will be looking at more advance than you will liekly get away with when runnign the squeeze.

right, some companies make chips specifically tailored for nitrous, but chips that incorporate more timing addvance, and changes in fuel curves you DEFINATELY want to avoid, unless you have an adjustable timing box. the advantage to having an adjustable timing box is that you can get the best of both worlds, N/A- you can run full advance without messing around with the distributor, whereas, on nitrous you can simply turn the ****, and youll back the advance off a little to ensure a safe nitrous run.

What would be best is to do as mentioned above... use an aftermarket ignition system and a custom chip. Part throttle and nitrous-turned-off performance would be helped because of the chip. The ignition box would take care of the ignition when you spray. The Crane HyFire HI-6S is an example. You can add accessories to this ignition box that allow you to retard timing. The timing retard can be triggered proportional to boost (turbo/supercharger) or as an on/off trigger. The ammount of timing you take out can be changed via a dial inside the car. Wire your nitrous and the box together in such a way that about 2 degrees for every 50hp of N2O is taken out when the system is activated. That's what I keep reading in the perf. magazines anyway... that ammount does vary. See ya.
