S.C. 370 LQ4

Picking up a 92 Camaro RS from my cousin in a week or so. Looking to just do a small tune up and fix the slight body damage for now and build up a Supercharged 370 LQ4/Th400 combo on the side to swap in.

I'm shooting for a RWHP goal of ~800.
I'd like to run between 10-20 lbs of boost using the 317 heads with some porting and ls6 intake w/ cam and fuel system to support.

I was first looking at a Vortech V-3 Si-Trim kit but its only good for 10 psi and I don't think will get me to my goal.

Now I'm looking at a Novi 1500 but I'm not sure what kit I would go with or if they would even work. I believe I just need new accessories but don't know what....I just need a little shove in the right direction.

This is my first build. Helped my dad work on his 383 85' T/A growing up and I've always wanted a 3rd gen f-Body so now's my chance to get started.

I know its not a lot to go on right now but given all my plans so far, do you think my goal of ~800rwhp is doable or am I crazy?

Novi 1500 would get near that mark. Build a stock cube forged motor with good cam and header. It will make power

Re: S.C. 370 LQ4

Yeah I guess the massive 6ci won't really help that much lol and I planned on going forged internal for sure.

Now what would be the best way to go about adding the Novi to the LQ4 as far as mounting the head unit. I doubt they have a whole kit for a LQ4 swapped in an f-body. Can I use the LS2 mounts ECS has for the 05-07 c6 and go from there?

That i dont know but i would think most ls block share similar accessory layout since heads interchange. Ecs mounts may work. Custom plumb piping from there

Re: S.C. 370 LQ4

I am pretty sure the ECS kits for the corvette and GTO mount the head unit with the belt facing the rear of the car. I had their kit on my 2010 Camaro and it mounts it in the more standard position. It could work. You may be better off buying the head unit from ECS and some generic brackets from Brute Speed or someone like that.

800RWHP through a TH400 will be a tall order for that head unit. My LS3 did 850RWHP through the TR6060 at 16psi and 750 at 12psi. Through the 4L80E I swapped in, it only put down 560RWHP at 12psi.

Could upgrade to the 2200 unit. A vette that came thru my friends shop made 1080 whp on a 400+ " ls build

Re: S.C. 370 LQ4

I keep forgetting that the numbers they show on the site are at the crank, I could put a 2200 in, budget isn't really a problem would just take longer to save and complete the build, which I'm alright with to get it all done right. Maybe I can beat my dads record of 20 years lol.

I might stick with the 1500, I'd like the build to stay some what reliable. I don't really need 800 to the rear wheels it would just be fun. If I get close I'll be happy.

I believe the backward facing unit from the vette shouldn't be an issue (Unless I have some clearance issues) as long as I get the c6 accessory drive kit to match. I could be wrong though, Still have a lot of research to do.

Look at the ECS camaro 2010 to 2015 kit, it is forward facing, and the tensioner deign is the best of them all. I am even looking into getting the outer bracket and tensioner set-up from them to put on my car. LS1 guys have gotten 800 rw from the 1500, i would start there.

Re: S.C. 370 LQ4

So that's two for the Camaro kit, I'll start there then.

Now for accessories. I found this article from SuperChevy

http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/eng...-drive-system/

In it it states

"- there are three basic factory systems based on harmonic balancer length. The Corvette system is the shallowest, using the shortest balancer. The middle length is based on the early Gen III Camaro systems (among others) with a balancer depth slightly longer than the Corvette. The third, and most common, system is the truck-based accessory drive with its tallest harmonic balancer."

and later

"The 2010 Camaro LS3/L99 system also uses the deep balancer"

They even have an Application Guide at the bottom that I just saw that puts them (truck/ls3camaro) in the same group.

So it sounds like I would stick with a truck style balancer

Sticking with the truck balancer will be nice since I can keep the accessories if they're not too bad, Ill replace the water pump but run the P.S. and alt till they go out.

But now I'm still stuck on the layout of accessories. If I buy Holley's kit p/n 20-135, I don't think it will work with the 10-15 Ecs Camaro kit. Will the LS3 brackets bolt to the Iron block? Any foreseeable fitment issues with that layout?

Appreciate the help and tolerance guys. Completely new to blowers but I'm getting it figured out.

Should be picking car up next weekend.

Re: S.C. 370 LQ4

So I've been doing some (alot) reading and found that with the 10-15 Camaro kit I can keep the truck style balancer and accessories (I'll be getting a new water pump regardless).

Now how does the blower mount? Does the kit mount to the power steering bracket? or does it remove the bracket and integrate the p.s. pump mounting into the blower bracket, thus having the blower mounted to the block/head? I see they supply a modified alt bracket.

Thanks for the help and tolerance. Blowers are a whole new world for me.

Re: S.C. 370 LQ4

Has anyone considered a TVS/Eaton supercharger? Something with the inter-cooler built into the manifold.
It looks to be that 800 CHP out of a 383 with 10 PSI isn't unreasonable.
Personally, I prefer the compactness of the package.

Re: S.C. 370 LQ4

IIRC correctly, the build used a 2.9 litre twin screw Whipple blower.
Cam was .617/.624, 231/239, LSA 113.
