That car is bada$s. I'm building a very similar replica of John Meaney's setup for my Corvette right now. My car is down at TRZ Racecars right now getting custom headers, intercooler, cold air intake, and dual exhaust fabricated. The engine is a little larger than John's, an SBC 427 vs. his SBC400, but I'm also running 18* heads, a Hogan's sheetmetal manifold, the same PT-52 turbochargers (except with PTE's new higher efficiency turbine housings), same wastegates, and a custom intercooler. Luckily the machinist I use is friends with him, Chuck Samuels who was mentioned in the article is partners with Jeff at Fast Times. Jeff was able to get some specifics on the setup, in addition to what PTE told me. I also called Troy Trepaniers shop and talked to them about John's setup and they gave me some info.
I had just finished my SBC 427 last summer and only had around 30 dyno pulls and 300 miles on it. It made 650hp/580 lb ft on the dyno on pump gas. But after reading that PHR article, It definitely motivated me to go ahead and do the twin turbo thing, which I wasn't planning on doing until next year.
I'm supposed to get my car back from the chassis shop in 2-3 weeks. After that, I've got to swap out the 11.27 CR JE's for some new 8.3CR JE's, a new cam, and possible o-ring the block. Then we're gonne dyno tune and test it at Fast Times around the end of March.
Since that article was written, the guys at Rad Rides told me he's gotten the times down to around 10.4 at 164mph on Michelin Pilot street tires. Even more impressive is that he does the last 1/8th at 3.0, which is Pro Mod territory. They told me that not only does he drive it around all the time, but he's even driven it several times from Detroit to their shop in mid-Illinois.
