Homemade cold air intake

How can i make a home-made cold air intake? is that different from just a ram air intake? My car is an 86 IROC with an aftermarket 350 and a Holley/edelbrock intake.

well i ghetto rigged minf for less than 5 bucks. just go to a hardwear store and get some of the flexable aluminum tube that they make for furnaces. i hooked it up to the snorkle tube, then routed it down to the front air dam. took no more than 15 min to instal, and i could tell a little diefferance in power.

ok,, i was thinking about trying to dig it out and throw it on my car for ya to look at, but its like ZERO degres outside!!, plus i couldnt find exactly what i needed. but ill try to give you some good instructions anyways. this is a very simple mod!, it doesnt require much thinking at all.

1.measure the size of your snorkle tube on your air cleaner, if you have a open element, you can ghetto rig it up to that somehow on your own.

2.go to the local hardwear store with 5 bucks. go into the fernus/heating (spelling??) isle. look for the aluminum ducting tube thats flexable, and make sure you buy the right diameter for your car!!!

3.pop your hood and look around on the side that your snorkle is on.(mine is on the drivers side, as i suspect everyones is)..your gonna need to look for a nce gap to the bottom of the car where this tube WILLNOT interfer with anything (fans, pullys).

4.conect one end to the snorkle on the air cleaner

5. i had a friend undernethe the car help me here...start to route the tube down to the botom of the car. have a friend under tha car to guide the tube. Remember this tube is flexable so it can bend good, and if needed, you can dent the tube in order to get it to fit right. when i routed it i think i went down right behined the AC pully.

6.after you have it route to the bottom, and its not in the way of everything, just bend it to where you think it will pick up the most air from it (bend the opening towards the front of the car right under the GFX)

7. start her up and go ride!

OPTIONAL!!! put screen over the opening with pull ties so crap doesnt come in. i never had problems with debree OR water.

i hope this helps you out. sorry i didnt get the pics, if its nice in the days to come, ill get off my *** and do it.
