I like the thread preview and "quick reply" features at ls1.com
At www.ls1.com, they have the following features:
In the forums, holding the mouse arrow over a topic displays a preview that consists of the first few lines/sentences of the topic. I really like this feature because you can quickly find topics you want to read and don't have to waste time with ones you don't care about. (It's not always obvious from the title.)
When you open a thread, there is a small reply box at the bottom of the the thread.
Both of these features reduce the volume of activity that the website sees. I don't know much about that stuff, but they implemented these features because their server couldn't handle all of their traffic. I know you just got a new server and don't have this problem yet, but those features allow people to scan forums much more quickly.
Can you put these features on thirdgen.org?
