Anyone ever thought of having thirdgen.org raffles, profits to be used for maintaining/enhancing thirdgen.org? Raffles could be done for any aftermarket parts available for our cars. The ultimate would be raffling off something like a supercharger kit or crate motor. The best arrangement given the variety of third-gens out there would be to make arrangements for purchase of the raffle item to happen after the raffle is over. To use the supercharger example. The raffle could be for an ATI supercharger kit not to exceed a value of X amount of money to be raffled off. Say not to exceed $3600. Now the raffle will occur when a minimum of 360 tickets at $10 apiece have been sold (or perhaps a minimum of 400 for profit if desired). Arrangements are made with an ATI dealer. When the winner of the raffle has been drawn, the winner chooses the specific kit needed for his vehicle. Thirdgen.org takes care of payment and getting the item shipped (again, shipping costs included in the $3600 max, so for this case maybe the max would be price + shipping cost to farthest US location from dealer) There are a number of ways to run the raffles to address tampering concerns of fellow Thirdgen members. Raffles participation should also be restricted to Thirdgen members (thus providing promotion for joining Thirdgen.org, which can further help increase income from advertisements) What I'm thinking is raffles will commonly be of items in the few hundred dollar range, like suspension components, ignition items, wheels/tires, interior items like racing seats or stereo equipment, etc. With the occasional big ticket items like intakes, superchargers, nitrous kits (the good kits), etc.
Any thoughts, comments, criticisms? has this been mulled over in the past?

I don't see it happening.
Mainly because I don't think it could be done without someone getting pissy because they didn't win.
I do like the idea of merchandise, such as t-shirts, which will be available soon, I believe.
You can try running the idea by Dirk, and seeing what he says, but I'm not sure it's gonna fly.

Still, the point being, someone would be pissed that they didn't win, and possibly start problems.
I personally don't think it's worth the hassle.
If you want to support the site, buy a t-shirt.

Dang, I'd buy 2 or 3 tickets. And I doubt anyone who lost has much of a case, especially when talking 1 in 400 odds. Make a disclaimer or something. I like the idea!

Id even do one for like a new Trans Am.....
600 tickets at $50 a peice. = 30,000
Sure its not great odds , but its alot better than winning the lottery.
And someone wins a new car for $50.
But I think the supercharger one is better
