Search engine traffic

About 6-8 months ago, I did some mass submitting of thirdgen.org to a few dozen of the most popular search engines. It seemed like the site picked up a bit during this time (about 1-2 months afterward), don't know if that helped or not.

This forum section wasn't up at the time, so I couldn't ask if this was ok to do. Is it ok if i do this once and a while? I'm not talking about setting up doorway pages or anything, (boss would kick my ***) just simple url submissions.

They work good to keep search engine spiders actively indexing the site, and providing results for searches, providing there isn't any code blocking the forum itself from being indexed.

All in all, it builds traffic. Is it ok if I do this?
