How about a General Chat Board?

A General Chat Board might help unclutter some of the other boards. It would also serve as a place where people on the forum can just type about other areas of interest or thought.

thirdgen.org is a tech only site, there is no need or desire to have a non tech board. i seriousely doubt if that changes any time soon.

Just some advice, search before you post. As I type this, there is a post about the same topic right below this post. This question gets asked every three days.

Well, that's too bad. Maybe I do own a white trash car - do only the uneducated, immature or teenager own a Camaro anymore?

I spend time on the Fiero board at Pennock's Fiero Forum and there doesn't seem to be any problem there with their General Fiero Chat. They have a "Totally O/T" for "totally off topic discussions" and a "Trash Can" board for those threads that "turn ugly." They are a tight group of relatively mature folks every bit as technically minded as anyone I've come across here.

Too bad. There seems to be a much tighter sense of community there.

Thats cause the boards are supposed to be tech only. Many nights there is a chat room on AIM, if you wanna just chat thats the place.

well if u love the Fiero Boards so much then go spend ur time over there.

the reason there is no Off Topic forums (and there did used to be one) is that there was too many flame wars going on. Even as it is now we can't control the members here posting non topic stuff and bashing people. This is a family friendly site that people can look at while at work and not worry about someing obscene coming up.

and as far as this site not having a "tigher sense of community".. come back when u have a few hundred more post under your belt and you will realize that it just takes longer to feel at home here.

I agree
when I just got here, I asked for a "general" forum too.
you learn to live with out it.
if you go around to the other f-body sites you will see the same people there...use those sites.
I like the info on cars and Ideas on what to do to upgrade my car, there is a local board that I go to to talk smak to people, It makes it better to talk to locals too....about off topic stuff

When thirdgen.org was shut down because of the General board, spin off sites were created. Ones like www.nethirdgen.org and www.sethirdgen.org

i agree, keep it tech only, no general chat, use aim for that. when you are at this site you should be thinking about your car, its your own special time to sit back and think about your baby and realize what can be done to her. read, relax, and have fun.
