So how are we doing?

Andy and I have been mods now for about two and a half weeks and I was wondering how everyone thinks we are doing. All opinions wanted.

Do you think there should have been 2 more mods to that board? Are we locking too many posts? What are your opinions?

Is there anything on that board that you wish to see more of? or less of? Any other suggestions for sticky's?

I know I got tired of 'make me sig' posts....so I made a sticky.

I think you guys are doing good, its not your fault members are making non-tech and/or way off topic posts/threads and you have to lock them.

Yeah, you lock-happy, thread-deleting, A-Hole banning Moderators are all the same. None of you are worth what the job pays...

Nice work. It's about time someone cleaned up that mess on the Detail Board. Keep it up, dudes. Just remember that everyone is human, so no one is perfect, but people usually ask for just what they get. We just have to be the bad guys and remind some of them once in a while. Usually an email or PM to someone is all it takes to keep thing rolling smoothly. I think I can count the nuber of people I've banned on two or three fingers, and all those were trolls who were banned once before. And that's only if they don't give a valid email address. I have a lot more fun registering them for free advertisement, credit check, Classmates, and porno web sites. Those usually generate plenty of spam to keep them busy and off our boards. I know - I'm nasty.

I can't complain. It's been mostly pretty clean on the General Board for a while. But now that I said that, you KNOW what's going to happen....

To be honest i think you guys are doing a great job!

I know people will always rag on you because they feel that their posts do not deserve to be locked etc..but at the end the day i now feel that when i look at a certain part of the board i know that i am only going to find things that are relevant to that area!

Plus i know from personal experience that you are listening to peoples suggestions ( I.e European board - Thanks again!!!)

Good work guys

Cheers

Phil

you can usually gage how well or how poorly you're doing by the amount of hate mail you get, or the admins get. every once in a while you might even get a "good job" e mail, but don't count on it. few things i do, right or wrong, is to pm the poster when i lock or delete a thread, i figure it's private between me and them and not for the rest of thirdgen.org to see or know. a lot of people think they have to know why threads were locked or deleted even when they had nothing to do with the thread. as a rule i delete threads because locking still allows the non tech, or non compliant message to get out. i try to be nice, polite, and respectfull witth my PMs when there is a rule infraction. being a moderator is pretty thankless job and if you try to do it right takes a fair amount of time. at least the pay is good to off set the abuse we take.

I think you're doing a fantastic job Josh. I emailed the admins a few months back about wanting the job, never got a reply. But now that you guys are in charge - the board is nice and clean. The way it should be.

However, as of right now...there are about 4 copies of the same post by a member about his 91-92 bird with a RA II hood. Only 1 has useful info. Maybe you could go and delete these.

But great job man! Makes it easier browsing for those of us with too much time.

Josh and Andy:-

Congrats on the promotion to moderator status.

Yes, more moderators were needed for the appearance and detailing board due to how busy it is. Surely it is better to have sufficient numbers of mod's (or even too many), rather than too few. I don't think too many posts are being locked. If posts are too "way off" and non-tech to be guided back in line then the lock has to come down.

The theoretical and street racing board seems like it needs more mods like you! It could do with fair and firm application of the rules, from more mod's due to the amount of bashing and trash talking going on in there.

Ede's way of dealing with locked threads via "nice, polite, and respectfull" PM's seems like a great idea also.

Good luck!
