I know this is thirdgen.org, but I also know there are people in here with tremendous experience in many other areas. That said, the main tech boards should be kept thirdgen, thus its easier to find information about thirgens, but a non-thirdgen tech only forums might be nice, it might not, depends on who visits it.
Just an idea....

 

I don't think anything like this will ever happen. Anytime I've had problems with other vehicles I've searched on the internet and usually found what I needed. It may take a little while but I usually find it. There are 1000's of other car forums out there, its a good chance one of them has the answer for you if you search for awhile

A Non-Thirdgen Tech board is a pretty good idea, something to help with normal stuff that many people dont know about like how to change brakes, tierods, fix a beater or those questions about our other cars we have but dont want to have to join another tech board to ask them.... i think its a good idea just to try.

 

Why? Half the bandwidth is already clogged with "fabrication"...

Yeah, I know. A lot of that kind of thing is already covered in Tech/General, but it isn't a machining-specific forum. With so many topics crossing lines, it may be hard to justify. Then again, having a specific place to discuss machining methods, tooling, feedrates, equuipment, templates, CNC programming, etc. may be beneficial, but not just to ThirdGens. Then again, how much of this is truly ThirdGen-specific?

Well I have a board I've been setting up for machining. I originally intended it for owners of machine shops to exchange ideas, but I don't have a problem with it being used for Fab-Machining-DYI type stuff.
My board is not meant to compete, nor take the place of TGO in any way, shape or form, so please moderators don't take it that way. The topic was brought up about a machining board, so I replied to it.
In fact I'm looking for experienced people in CAD/CAM, EDM, Punching, etc-etc. for moderators. I'm a machinist and know my limitations, so I'm asking for people to help in the areas they know best to help run the board for the benefit of all.
