Just a thought...3D F-bodys...game

Well, recently a lot of people have PM me and E-mailed me asking how i put my Camaro in a video game... im sure its because of my sig pic
other members have asked if i would put there cars in a game... iv seen post before people where asking what games had F-bodys and what not.
Im 110% sure there's a lot of people on the boards that would want to see there Camaros, Firebirds, and Trans ams in a game and actually be able to drive them around...
as i said Just a thought, what if there was a board for this kind of stuff?
i think that would be kind of cool,

please post your comments...

I fully support it ! I think it would be awesome to have the programming / graphics guru's that post on this site to be able to input and design thirdgen cars to be added to popular video games (maybe even sup them up to where they are faster than the other cars offered in the game! )

sounds like an awesome idea i think. Maybe call it Thirdgen media and graphic arts? This way theres a more creative area for members like myself and NEEDforSPEED and like 80% of people here. People who draw/sketch, photoshop, and put cars in video games, edited movies or hell put an exhaust clip in a techno song or some crazy stuff like that (don't steal that idea lol). I support this idea 100%

Hey, stiers' brother Matt, here.
I dont think you asked Addict before you modded his car like you're supposed to . Oh well, it doesn't really matter.
Now, dont you think that our thirdgens deserve better than that model?

See, isnt that better? I work closely with the modeler of that car, and with some talking, im sure I can get him to give me a copy of that and let me do some high-quality renditions of your cars. He also, unlike Addict, made a firebird seen below.

None of those are released, so I'm sure I'm the only one who can get them. Also, I work with some converters, so we could get these cars into the likes of NFS3, NFS6, Racer, GTA, F1, and possibly some other games if not all you have Need for Speed.
Suffice to say, I'm in.

I highly agree that there should be a board for all this as posting it other places is frowned upon. A lot of us are interested in these things and a Board for it would allow it to be tech related.

This is an old idea. There was someone a year or 2 ago that was doing this for people for Midtown Madness... or at least he was going to, I never saw it happen.

I too agree that a "digital media" board would be a good idea. All the photoshop requests could go there as well. There's plenty of other stuff on these boards that isn't tech related, like all the "would my car beat a mustang?" threads on the racing boards.

I did it! I got a thirdgen in GTAIII! Well, i found it on a german site, i had to use www.altavista.com bablefish to figure out how to download it.... but i found it here http://gta-action.com/dlm/download.php?id=446 those rims SUCK, but the ones mine have are pretty nice.

Thats in .dff and .txd format if other games can use it... I used DFF viewer to look at it. This model is so detailed it has subs, if you look under em you can see the amp, it has Heartbeat of america (funny, its from germany) floormats, and a South Carolina Plate that says CAMARO on it, lol

I copied this outta my Mercedes Readme, thats about it, but it says you cant add it to anything but the "esperanto" but my camaro wanted to be a pheonix (vice city) so i just changed the file name to what the file name of what i want to replace is, and it works fine....

1) Download IMG Tool from http://www.gta3files.com/ if you do not
already have this utility.

2) Backup your gta3.img and txd.img files. They should be located in
your gta3/models directory. If you don't do this, then the only
way to return your game to normal will be to reinstall.

3) At the moment, the only way to load new car models in the game is
to replace an existing car with the new one. I chose the Esperanto,
and cannot guarantee that the model will load if you replace any
other car. People have had success replacing other cars with previous
models of mine, but use your own judgement. Read the warning below
for more info regarding replacing specific types of cars.

Using IMG Tool, load txd.img. Find the corresponding car TXD
(ex. stallion.txd) and delete it from txd.img. This will take some
time. Then, once the original car TXD is gone, add elise.txd to
txd.img. IMG Tool will prompt you to provide a new filename for the
TXD; use the name of the TXD you just deleted from txd.img (from the
previous example, also stallion.txd)

4) Repeat the same steps for gta3.img, only using the DFF files instead
of the TXD files. So, delete carname.dff from gta3.img and add
elise.dff and give carname.dff as the new name.

5) Load up GTA3 and look for your brand new shiny car. Enjoy.

look at all this interest!!!!!!!!!!!! It's like the board already exists. Us thirdgen members want a creative outlet area on the boards! After all, to build a car takes creativity and craftsmanship, the same qualities a true artist has. If you ask me, all this media and gettin' your hands dirty on a motor are about one in the same.

I am in agreement with this thread. I think there is a lot of interest here, and like someone said, all the photoshop'ing stuff could fall under this too.

I'm all for it. It would be great for all the 'digitally inclined' thirdgen enthusiasts.

So anyhow, I downloaded that Rhino 3D v3.0 the other day (evaluation version) and started playing with it. Pretty sweet little program. Anyways, heres what I came up with tonight, I know it may not be very accurate, but its the best I could remember off the top of my head. I think I'm going for the most realistic 3D model of an F-Body if I ever find time to finish it. I'm going to have to learn some more skills in it too, as well as find some how to let the program let me save more than 25 times (evaluation programs....jees). Need to learn how to make smooth curved surfaces using points. Anyhow here it is. Dont know if I like the color rendition of it tho, it looks bad in ghosted grey/black in the prog. I may try and find a better color render program for it for the finishing touches. Here's basically the wheels, subframes, some sfc's, rear axle, brakes, steering assebly and part of the engine. Tell me what you think.

It was so long ago, i forgot i said pretty much the same thing up there, and to answer several questions, no you do not need to burn anything...

To add any car *camaro* Into GTAIII , you gotta:
*first and foremost, backup gta3.img and txd.img*

1. goto http://gtaworld.nfscheats.com/utilities2.php and download IMG Tool (3rd down)
2. Using IMG Tool, open TXD.img (in the models folder in your gtaIII folder, ex. c:\program files\rockstar\GTAIII\models and use the edit menu, goto find, and in the case of the camaro, search for MAFIA. It will find mafia.txd. Goto Edit, then Rename it to mafia.txdbak, just add bak so you can keep the origional, and the game wont recognize the origional mafia sentinal anymore.
3. Goto the Commands menu and goto add, add the mafia.txd file that you downloaded of the camaro.
4. Goto File, Close *NOT EXIT* and then Open gta3.img, the things you see should all say radar00-09 or so. Goto Find, Find the mafia, SKIP mafia.txd, so goto find next, and find mafia.dff. do the same thing where you add bak to it, then goto Commands, and add mafia.dff that is the camaro.
5. Close IMG Tool, and run the game, and find a mafia (or have a consol that gives it to you), but they are always at the top of the hill at the mafia house.

I origionally found the camaro at http://gta-action.com/dlm/download.php?id=446 , I had to use a translator and a lot of time of fiddling with the site to find the files, so. I am not taking credit for makin it, i just found it.... I love driving it, its pretty sweet, i dont really get errors with it. I dont remember having it with the camaro, but i have several modified cars, and it seems when i get into a BIG accident with em, it locks up...
Sorry Firebird people, havent found one yet

I will try to upload it and send a link somehow because this wont let me attach it to it, it has to be a jpg or other picture file...

I just saw this post, and let me say that this is one of the best ideas that i've heard in a while. I play video games alot and i love my car, so why not combine the two? This has interested me a lot. Anyone try using CAD for the car designs? My girlfriend uses it a lot for her interior design major at Philadelphia University.

Hey 87Formula4bbl Here is a link that can help you with your Rhino problem

http://www.cracks.am/d.x?54089

Copy/paste to your brouser and when the message appeares "Download aborted..."
just close it with the X in the corner and on the next page click download
And you have to remove the ".x" from the end of the file to uncompress it.

The problem you would find with having F-bodies in a game is legal issues, you have to get Permission from GM to make the F-body designs.

I'm sure if we asked GM they wouldn't care that much. It's not like we're out to make them look bad All we want is their cars in a video game. They already have the ZO6 and Camaro SS in Gran Turismo 3 and there were a bunch of Chevys in Gran Turismo 2. Pontiac has never really had any cars in games, although Midtown Madness has some Pontiac muscle cars, and MotorCity online had a bunch of GM cars.
