Search Function's
First off I would like to say HI. I have not been around fast cars for about 10 years. ( I had 2 kids.) Well now money is better and I just bought a 87 GTA Trans Am and found this forum.
I wish they had a place like this 14 years ago..
Anyway I have been looking through this forum for about 3 days now a just registered today. The main reason I registered was to use the search functions.
That is where I found a problem.
When I search for a code like CODE 21 it will not let me because 21 is only a 2 letter word. I can see what you would not want people searching for things like How can I tune a LB9 because words like I or A would kill your server. But the codes are all 2 numbers.
By the way I love the tech section at https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/
I would love to know if you sell memberships or something for me to help support this site.

You are right about two letter search words. They'd make the search database huge (gigabytes). It already is large as it is. It could also create a server load issue.
Since you seem to have an understanding, you may already know that when you perform a search, you really are not searching the data in the post fields. You are not searching the actual posts. Instead, you're searching through a search table that is linked to posts that contain the word you're looking for.
i'm sure TGO could have certain two letter words/digits (like trouble codes) included in the search table without having to include all two letter words that aren't already in the "bad" list that vBulletin contains to prevent people from using common search words (to, as, is, etc.) but since TGO wants to upgrade their software, i'm guessing TGO is not likely to go through that much trouble.
i think that issues like this should be less of an issue once TGO upgrades their vBulletin software and takes advantage of MySQL's full-text searching. i know that is Dirk's plan.
i am not aware of any type of memberships, other than perhaps supporting the sponsors above. But Dirk or Iroc (Admins) probably can answer that better.

i cannot agree more with the search functions being funny in the way you have to word things ...
if you are looking for the codes and what they are you can find them here https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/faq/thirdgen.shtml
just scroll all the way to the bottom of the page

Now it off to adjust the throttle position sensor and get rid on one problem. I think the code 42 I'm getting is going to be a little harder than an adjustment.
