i see that when are viewing a PM and decide to delete it it will then send you back out to the inbox instead of to the next message

is this the only way it is or is there a way i can make it always go to the next message ?

reason why i ask is because i hae over 500 messages and i want to clean it out but it will take literally all year to click into each message and view it and decide whether i need ot keep it or not

I believe, in short, the answer to your specific request is no - not without altering part of the messaging code, which would impact all users.
