Automatic Link Naming... Why?
Here I am, trying to make a nice-looking reply with cleaned-up link titles. I hit preview... looks great; then I hit post, and bam! I see that after each link title I made, the "politically correct" one comes after it in ()'s.
Come on guys, why? It makes my post look trashy to have some other user's funky title with bad punctuation, caps, etc. For the love of all that is holy, please turn this "feature" off!

You can click on "Go Advanced" and then uncheck the box for "Automatically retrieve titles from external links."

Funny, as that's never checked for me, and I never remember checking it. But let's test it:
-LS1Tech - Testing External Link
-Link to this thread - Testing Internal Link
Edit: Ok, when I replied, the first view of the page showed the links correctly. But when I reloaded the page, the external link name was fine and as I had it, but the internal link (thirdgen thread) has the "correct" name after it. Again, I never check "Retrieve External Link..." Can you set it to not retrieve the internal links as well?

Last time I checked, it could not be disabled in vBulletin. Before you ask, the answer would be "no" to switching to something else other than vBulletin.
As well, vBulletin is extremely customizable and modular with it's templates and "aftermarket" plugins.
JT is correct. This feature is part of VBSEO. However, I find it very annoying and disabled the feature a bit ago. How recently did you try? Could you try again or send me a link to the thread?
If we can track down where it is still happening, I should be able to get rid of it.

Ok. The external automatic link naming was disabled a while ago. As for the internal links, this features was enabled intentionally. It leaves the name you create for the link and then adds the thread title in parenthesis. This is very useful for creating good quality intersite links.

Well, I think that feature does more harm than good in my case. For example, look at my post here:
-4th gen tank in a 3rd gen?
I name the links and clean them up a little to make my post look good, but then I have double titles, which makes me look like a fool. If I leave the default titles, it looks like I took care in making the rest of my post but couldn't care less about the links... it just doesn't match. Can you add an option to turn this off? Leave it on for default, but have an option to check it off for neat freaks like me?

That is an interesting thought. I'll dig around vBulletin's and VBSEO's website to see if there is any feature that will allow these options on a per user basis.
