This will probably be a very controversial topic so I will be straight to the point.

I believe all topics that refer to street racing and (hey I want to race my buddies cobalt etc) topics should be restricted.

Reason being, by banning the encouragement of street racing not only are you preventing people from breaking the law, you can prevent people from losing their lives and their precious thirdgens.

I was once all about racing on the streets. I have had some very close calls and had a past run in with a cop. Heck I watched a TV special last night about a 19 yr old kid who street raced a mercedes and hit a minivan and killed a woman and her daughter.

Streetracing is stupid. We can promote track use more by eliminating all references to street racing. Besides for you people who are pro-streetracing. Timeslips do not lie. You have an ambulance, and simple rules to keep you and everyone around you safe. You get caught street racing you can go to jail and lose your car. If you hit and kill someone that is vehicular homicide easy.

Please consider creating a new rule inwhich eliminates further references and posts that aid, and promotes people's scheduled and non-scheduled street racing.

In my opinion, if someone wants to know if they can beat there buddies Cobalt, regardless if they can post about it on TGO or not, they are going to race anyway.

I really can't imagine someone saying, "I wondered if I could beat him, but since I can't ask TGO, I'm not going to race him". If anything, they are just going to ask another board.

When you have a board full of gear heads, regardless if there is a street racing board or not, it's going to happen. Not trying to start an argument, just my opinion.

 

I completely agree with you. Eliminating street racing threads sends a powerful message, that it is stupid and reckless.

People will do what they want, but I sir, am not the kind of person who aids someones' recklessness.

Sure you can ask if your car will beat a cobalt or whatnot... on a track. Asking, hey who's car is faster is not a big deal. What is, is when so and so talks about... "hey my friend smoked me the other day, what can I do to beat him next weekend?"

By humoring his topic on obvious but not always stated street racing, the author will get the vibe that is it acceptable to make those careless decisions.

Perhaps when people say, "Hey you know, your car will be faster on the track and it is easier to have bragging rights." then perhaps you have a fighting chance to have someone stray ontop a more safer and more satisfying path.

If you could just influnce just one person to do the right thing, then it is more than worth it.

 

That board was made because people would not stop posting about street races all over the place. If they're gonna do it, it was best just to give a board to it. TGO does not promote it, but people are going to do it regardless. Please read the sticky post on that board to understand it better. Maybe by learning whos gonna win ahead of time will stop some people. Also, if not here, they will discuss it on other boards which is not too good for business for the owners I'd imagine.

At least the street racing board keeps that kind of nonsense out of the legitimate boards.

 

You can die from any amount of things you can come up with, point im making is life isnt fun without any exciting risks or stories. Whats more fun, telling a story about a super crazy race you had with some ***** you ended up smoking and laughing at and driving off around town, or a local track race?

 

Perhaps you can tell the story how you were going 100 mph and couldn't stop in time when a car pulled into the road and you killed a family. I can't wait for you to tell your buddies about that.

Obviously, no one really is on the same page as me. That is okay. This was a suggestion and comment board and I gave both.

So you do not promote street racing but are willing to tolerate it for the sake of business. Wow... I can finally see...

 

I've street raced since ive owned my car, i race stop light to stop light, so i dont go over 100, and its on places where no one can pull out in front of you, because theres stoplights, works good for me.

 

Streets are not made for high speeds. They are not built to the same standards as tracks. Not as clean and controlled. You think racing stop to stop is safer? Guess who hangs out at stop lights? People waiting to pull out infront of you. I hope one day you gain an epiphany and do the right thing. If not I hope you do not regret it.

Streetracing does not make you cool. Just reckless dude.

 

I do have eyes so i can see if someones pulling out haha, just because you dont like it doesnt mean everyone should stop doing it. I dont do it to be cool, who am i going to impress? haha i do it because its super fun to smoke people off the line on the weekends, i dont tell you what to do with your life so you should probably keep your touched by an angel lifestyle off the forum.

 

Personally I don't support or enjoy the activity. But as stated, TGO doesn't support it either. Pulling the forum, or posts, is not going to make people stop doing the activity or talking about it. There is mixed results from both members and staff in regard to the forum, but it appears leaving it as is has prevailed all these years.

 

Well not everyone lives conveniently close to a race track to where we can just go whenever we want! Nor do we have the money to drive a car that gets 10mpg on an almost 3 hour trip to the dragstrip!

You will have stupid poeple in every kind of situation that is imaginable. The stupid people that street race where they shouldn't make it look horrible for everyone else! What is honestly wrong with being out in the middle of nowhere, on a stretch of road, that doesn't even have any crossroads for about 10 miles, and setting up a race there? The only lives that are in danger here are the drivers, which is the same exact thing as racing at a track!

This is like saying, well lets take all violent movies and games away from children and they won't kill people anymore! If someone wants to flaunt about a street race, then don't ****ing reading it if you don't like it!!!!!

 

street racing is not really big on maui but the track only opens once a month.. and racer fees are a bit high.. per night, $25-$35 if you are a member of VITA(valley isle timing association).. $50 if you are not a member..

most people only get the 3 qualifying runs and then are eliminated in the first round.. so you do 1 run for $7-$8.. or, you could find a street with no cops in sight and run for the cost of 1 minute of your time..

i know that street racing is bad and what not, but sometimes your budjet wont get you to the track.. the main problems are the inconviniences.. the wait for the next races.. what if you work on that night or have someplace to be(a family reunion, aniversary?)..

maui has stepped up its actions in preventing street racing and speeding though.. a law was passed that stated: anyone traveling over 30mph over the speed limit will have their license suspended for 3 months and be fined $1000..

i, myself do not street race.. i cant afford to be caught.. i would lose my car, be kicked out of the house and would have to pay for college myself..

 

Your analogy is not only incorrect, it is just plain silly. Taking away peoples right to talk about street racing will not in itself solve anything (Directly speaking) The message people get from this, will be "Okay this site is hardcore against street racers, obviously there must be a reason why they are so against it."

You cannot stop the ignorant people. Once informed, they are no longer ignorant. If they still do it they become stupid people.

I know it is tough, if you do not have a track nearby. However, you are taking a huge risk for no gain. The glory you feel from a won race on the streets last a short while. If you kill someone. or have your car totaled, that pain is felt for much longer....

Obviously, the Admins here have already dismissed my request so there is really no point continuing since anything left after this is no longer a debate just arguments.

 

I personally dont like street racing. Fortunately I have a drag strip near by, but like some of you said you cant afford to go to a track or it is just to far away. I think if you do decide to street race it should be taken to a long empty road were the only people that are in danger is yourself. Why put innocent people at risk. I bet some of you that agree with street racing would change your mind if a family member or your girlfriend was killed by someone street racing. If you are going to street race please do it were you cant hurt innocent people. Here is a video that might change your mind. Naw it's cool, I just wanted to state the reason I street race! I don't do it anywhere that could possibly potentially hurt anyone. I personally get more of an adrenaline rush on the street rather than the strip (my car feels slow at the track when I'm racing a 10 second wheelie standing fox body with my 15 second formula, kind of embarassing!) But yeah I also understand the point you try to make here!

 

Alright nelapse, ill chime in for your cause. I noticed the the mods stated there is a sticky in there? Kind of a disclaimer i suppose, i havent read it yet. I always passed over that forum, and found it was kinda silly to have something up like that. I havent read anything in there, and that includes the sticky.

First of all, id like to say to 83_Chevy, youre way outta line buddy, youre the reason why people get into stupid accidents and why ppl lose their lives. The thing is, you dont tell people to live their life, but you are certainly playing with other's lives. The fastest roads are highways where the speed limit is 60/100 (mph/kmph) and your racing 100 from light to light? You should have ure license taken away and be thrown in jail for being and idiot, and defending yourself for irresponsible actions. Bottom line, who cares if its fun, its ILLEGAL too!

I realize there is a sticky for the board, but there is also a sticky for using the search button, regardless we still get a ton of reposts. When i read the title for the first time, i didnt know what went on in there, but i got a pretty good idea of what it will cause.

You say it will prevent ppl from doing it? I think it will have the exact opposite effect. What youve created is a harbour where people who do it, can boast about it, and ppl who havent done it will get ideas. By giving it the title STREET RACING, its kinda hard to ignore what they are gonna be reading about. SO if they read that all these ppl are doing it, and all these ppl are enjoying, hey maybe i should do it too. So if you guys dont wanna take the board down, maybe change the title???

Another board i belong to, calls it "Kill Stories", basically stories about where your ride won. However, because of the responsible atmosphere, most of them take place at a track.

I agree with what nelapse is saying, and for all you ppl promoting it, IMHO you guys should have ure cars taken away. Its ppl like you that are causing insurance rates to go up for teenagers, and sports cars, and its ppl like you why i stay home on a slippery day. I know im a safe driver, but theres always lunatics like you out there.

Hey i got an idea, alot of ppl have fun drinking and driving too, i bet its alright to do that too since there so many ppl r doin it. Lets make a baord about that too.


Also, 5678TA has a valid point. Drag strips can be expensive, but if you own a 2 door V8 car, you kinda give up the right to complain about high gas prices and not being able to drive too far. These cars are luxuries, and you have to be responsible with them. If youre track charges too much, take it up with the track. I know the police around my area, usually have "free" track nights, for students and the like, where you can bring your car down,a nd race youre heart out. Again, if its really unaffordable, maybe you should park the thing. Street racing isnt responsible cuz YOU are NOT the only one on the road. Just cuz you "have eyes" or like to be vigilant for kids doesnt mean things dont happen. Thats why they are called ACCIDENTS. Talk to your track, talk to the police in youre community, find an empty parking lot for all i care, but streets arent the place to do it.

Street racers have ruined alot of things here in Savannah.
We have this place we like to eat called Moe's Southwest Grill. Has a massive parking lot, and beside it is even more parking.

Every Saturday night used to be a get together for car enthusiast. However after a while every teenager with a coffee can was there. Then there was alot of street racing, and people doing alot of other stupid things. Now cops come with tow trucks after one hour of people gathering

Two months ago, There was a 02 ford mustang, and an 02 firehawk. They looked at eachother and gunned it. The firehawk blew by the mustang well over 100, then both cars slowed down. A grandprix pulled next to the firehawk and said "hey man that was awesome!" Red light occured and the grandprix lady did not know and rear ended the mustang.

Morale of that story is that not only is streetracing dangerous, it is a distraction.

Third story. Man came back from Iraq here in Savannah, went out to celebrate and was going to meet up with his wife and daughter at the movies.
Engaged in a street race with a Camaro (he owned a GTO LS2) He lost control and died. He was best friend of my best friend (who happens to be the guy who drives the 02 firehawk in previous story)
Now his wife and kid is alone.

I have more, and this is just Savannah.

You cannot control all factors. You may believe you can, but you will lose. Odds are against you and you can be only so lucky.

I once owned an 2000 Cavalier Z24, I tried to test limitations on an old country road, a road I was familar with. I had my friend in the car. We took a turn at 70 mph and the corner was littered in sand. The rear of the car slid out and hit a corner of a ditch, rolled the car 4 times and ended up upside down in a trench with water. Car was fully submerged. My friend and I in the middle of the night had to swim out of my window since both doors were smashed so much I could not open them in water. As soon as my adreneline left I collapsed and woke up in a hospital.

No it wasn't a street race, but it was the same mentality that I controlled all the factors, I thought I knew everything and in the end you know nothing.
