Garage modification

I'd like to suggest modifying the member's garage area so that minor changes could be updated by a member but not announced to the entire board. This way I could use the garage area for notes on what I need to do and only announce a change to my virtual garage to the members when I really have something worthwhile to show....

That isn't exactly so easily done, and would affect everyone. The garage is a public area that is primarily used to show off your vehicle, as well as to provide information and modifications about the vehicle.

What do you define as "minor" changes? I would assume the description? Generally, members use the description area to list their modifications and any information about their vehicle.

I do not mean for this to come off sounding harsh, but you may want to use something else if you're using the garage for "record keeping" that really only you want to know. That's not the function of the garage - atleast not currently.

I suppose it might be possible to add a hidden field that only the garage owner can see, where you can put such notes. But is that necessary and will it be useful to the majority? If so, then the program would need to be modified to allow it (not really that difficult), and so that updates to that field don't result in the submission being brought back to the top.

I'll admit the Garage leaves a lot to be desired. In my opinion, I think TGO's original Readers Rides, which was written by a former TGO owner, was better. We've slightly tweaked the Garage, but the Garage isn't our product. It is a "plugin" that was written and developed by people outside of this community to install and integrate into the vB forum software.

I've always been interested in considering something better.

Re: Garage modification

I see. well the garage is pretty cool so I'll quit using it for my what if or might try notes & keep the garage the garage.

I use about 3 or 4 systems to access the board from home, north library, south library or a library near work. a user note page just for the user would be cool to cut and paste some of many ideas from the different forums. no problem, I'll e-mail tips & ideas that apply to me for consolidation at home.

I enjoy the forum a lot so thanks
