Suggestion: Rim and Tire Thread
Rather than using the Auto Detail Thread.
Re: Suggestion: Rim and Tire Thread
The staff has discussed this before. We came to a conclusion that for the past several years, people were used to searching the Appearance and Detailing forum for looks/styles, then Suspension forum for any technical questions.
We considered a seperate Wheels and Tires forum to eliminate the above. However, we have a lot of forums as-is. Some have complained about having to scroll more to get to the forums they are interested in. This would add to those complaints. Of course with higher resolution monitors and bigger screens this should be less of an issue today.
We then considered it as a subforum under the Suspension forum. However, people would probably not think to look under the Suspension forum to ask appearance related questions about how X wheels look on their Third Gen.
We also considered it as a subforum under the Appearance & Detailing forum, but like above, thought people wouldn't think to look under the Appearance & Detailing forum to ask questions about best tires, what rims will fit, etc.
Some don't think there is enough support for a seperate Wheels & Tires forum, especially as these cars become more of a collector car and stock appearance is generally favored.
However, I'm not closed off on the idea. I know that this has been suggested over time.

a sub-forum sounds like a good idea, maybe the same forum linked to both the suspension and appearance forums. in other words, same forum, 2 ways to get there.

Re: Suggestion: Rim and Tire Thread
I'm a firm believer that as long as the forums aren't over-crowded (and very few, if any of ours are), then the smaller the number of forums the better. A few forums each one covering a broader series of topics is better than a ton of very specialized forums.
Re: Suggestion: Rim and Tire Thread
I think, based on what I'm seeing from staff input and my own observations, that we may still hold off on this.
I don't think we're saying "no", just more of a "not at this time" due to lack of demand (requests and traffic) to warrant the changes.
