Ads with Rollovers
Ads with Rollovers
I understand the fact that in order for us to have a free forum, there has to be some form of advertising, and for the most part I do not mind ads since—as 99% of the websurfing population—I have developed "banner blindness." Actually, since some of the ads are related to the subject matter, I appreciate having them there.
However, I find those banner ads that come to life and start playing all by themselves by a simple mouse rollover, annoying as hell. What a PITA, especially at the office or at home late at night.
I am aware that you can opt-out of advertising, but that option has to do with privacy issues rather than stopping such ads from appearing.
Wish you guys would reconsider running animated or dynamic ads as I am sure I am not the only one who dislikes them.
Just my 2 cents.
Thank you!

Re: Ads with Rollovers
There are ads that are designed to expand when a mouse is moved over. Those ads are called mouseover ads and a part of the Google network. I don't believe we have complete control over what ads we're served from the Google network.
When we're informed of a misbehaving ad (ad that expands on its own, ad that covers content and can't be minimized/closed, or an ad that is misplaced or buggy) we can block those specific ads as long as we're given the click-through link.
For the most part, the ads that are in use haven't changed significantly for the past 6 years. While I'm sure most members would rather not see ads, they are necessary. As you know, ThirdGen.org is free to access, however, it is not free to operate. The ads pay for the operating costs as well as provide profit for the for-profit business model.
