poor advertising on site

hopped on to lurk today and noticed one of the advertisements on the website showed a picture of pouring coca cola into a gas tank for better gas mileage.

i have a sneaky suspicion that would be a very bad idea.

p.s. i realize it's probably outsourced to some company that adjusts what ads we see based on browser history or some such, but i have no idea where that would have come from or why it would be advertised.

Re: poor advertising on site

Although the community is free to access and use for personal usage, it is not free to operate. Advertisements help to pay the costs associated with keeping the community online.

There are certain advertisements that we do not allow, but we can't exactly regulate advertising that are simply attention-seeking, such as your example, or ones that should question common sense. Additionally, some ads are served based on the viewer's browser history.

Your example is not much different than a TV, or other video media, ad from a vehicle manufacturer showing a vehicle going off-road, jumping, or racing on the street. Fine-print of "closed course", "professional driver", "do not recreate this", aside, it's the same thing.
