Re: Poor poor little v6
don't believe what everyone else says,
people on this forum think a T5 is to weak for even a V6, but go to a chevy truck board, daily people buy T5's from 3rd gen's to put in their straight6 and V8 pick up trucks, hauling boats, trailers, 30tons of stone and they hold up fine, but a 3rd gen camaro with a stock 305 with 2 cylinders missing will trash one so you better spend 2,500 on a T56 swap............

While I have not "broken" one, meaning catastrophic failure, I have gone through a couple in my V6 S-10, one was with the original carbed 2.8, but to be fair it seemed to be having issues when I bought it (noisy). The other was bolted to the back of my turbo 3.2L. It lasted about 8 months before it too was whining while it worked.
I'm seriously considering swapping a Nissan 5 speed trans in place of my T5 in my Jimmy, when I put it back together. Shifting is so much smoother, and I've put it through hard usage and it works amazingly.
Automatic transmissions are expensive to rebuild regardless of what the original engine application was. Around here they are usually $1200+ for stock rebuilds. I did get a SMOKING deal on a trans rebuild of a 4L60E recently through a friend of a friend, so I was spared from the outrageous expense there.

67-72chevytrucks.com They can't get enough T5s out of 3rd gens to buy.
Even funnier part is how everyone always said the shifter is to far back to use one in a truck so it has to be from a S10, thats 100% wrong. not even close to a problem, not even an after thought in a T5 swap into a truck. It fits.

To spend any less they will be cutting corners, like a $5-700 bench build, where they just take it apart and put in a kit, not checking anything or replacing parts not in a rebuild kit. dice roll

When I rebuilt my 4l60e it was around $1000 to do it myself. That was going through everything in it and replacing most parts with performance components.

Re: Poor poor little v6
I went through this a couple of years ago, Wasn't in a big hurry and kept looking, found a low mileage rebuilt 700 on ebay. Guy spent big bucks rebuilding it, upgraded parts, After a few hundred miles, decided he'd rather have a manual in his Vette, I got it for 600.00 , It's a lot of work to correctly rebuild one of these, either do it your self or find a good used unit to swap in.
