Possible convertable scam..

Since you guys are the convertable experts, what do you think of this car?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6161

I have another thread going on about it here: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=258766

Anyone on here able to help answer the question of what this car really is?

It's originally a 350 coupe. Simple examination of the VIN reveals this.

The owner doesn't know Camaros. Why else would he advertise a '90 as a Z28, not an IROC-Z? He doesn't know the difference.

probably using a false vin to show a 1990 car, so that way he can sell it as a RARE 1990 Vert........

He does advertise that its an IROC, just not in the ad title. The thing that doesnt match is the 90 VIN and the complete 91-92 interior and exterior.

I agree, this stinks pretty bad. The VIN doesn't match for sure. He probably wrote it down at a parking lot somewhere.
Can someone notify eBay of this scam? That's the rigth thing to do. Maybe the seller account has been hijacked just for this purpose. Happens every day.

My only hesitation in coming to that conclusion is this:

If he is trying to pass it off as a rare convertible, he's doing it the wrong way. He is obviously not trying to sell to the 3rdGen people like us, otherwise he would have been more clear in the description and things would've matched better.... so here's my point.

Most people, if they know nothing about a car other than seeing the word RARE, they are more attracted to NEW or NEWER model years... therefore, why would he pick 1990 as the year of the car? Why not 1992? I mean, if you didn't know any better, wouldn't you want the 2 year NEWER car?

Something is really fishy about it and if you read the other post, the owner doesn't seem to care about correcting this confusion.

Yep, this happens all the time. My car was advertised as a 92 GTA convertible...only one problem.....they didn't make GTA Verts in 92. The car also lacked the other normal GTA items not to mention the car did not have the RPO code for a GTA.

I bought the 92 Trans am because it was Jamaican Yellow. The first thing I did when I got it home was to remove the GTA badges!

I already reported it as a possible fraud but did not get any reply so far (they might be backed up). I asked them to investigate.

The thing that bothers me the most is that someone actually won the car. Or won some car ... if any at all. I wouldn't want to be the buyer.

We need more members to contact eBay and vote their opinion on this auction (or multiple auctions). This is not right, somebody's gonna get hurt.

Damn...I almost won this auction (first time)...glad I won mine instead! (Whoever was watching the auctions will recognize my car, as it was on the block the same time as the one above!)
