New Iroc-Z project!!!!!!
As some of you guys might know, i sold my yellow car a month or so back.
but now i have a replacement!!!
1989 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc-Z28. It was $1100! Not only that but it's a WCT5 and a hardtop!
I miss the yellow, but this car is alot closer to what i really wanted i think!
what it needs to pass inspection:
Intake gaskets (leaking)
shifter handle and **** (dude cut it off..)
passenger mirror needs reattatched
swap out the hatch pull down for the one in the garage
battery
gas!
The exterior is really really bad, but we'll get it fixed. Between now and next week imma try and do this:
order a cowl hood since the stock hood's junk
get a driver fender and a hatch since the ones on there are gummed up.
fix the dent in the quarter, spoiler piece.
in the future, we're going to get it repainted with a nice gloss black. Then silver hockey stripes with some medium metal flake. We're also going to strip the wheels and have them polished and re-cleared.
Im so excited!

305TPI. thats because its got the WCT5. The 2 never went together unfortunatly.
this will work alot better. The hardtop WCT5 combo will really make things easier. Its lighter, stiffer, and more fun. I cant wait to get it inspected!

it has what i was looking for when i bought my sport coupe. which i'm thinking about selling or just getting another 3rd gen in better shape. i got into a hurry when i had cash to buy one. i wanted a 350 or a manual camaro. i bought neither

Re: New Iroc-Z project!!!!!!
Yes its running fine. It was indeed the #5 injector, however the #6 also died. Im ordering a whole new set of injectors here so i dont have to deal with stealing them 1 by 1 from my other intake.
I havnt got around to figuring out the oil leak yet, but i'll get on that asap.
also, there was some wiring butchery from some random idiot. Im going to fix all that as soon as i track it all down (wires cut, pulled out, or hidden in weird ways, but everything seems there).
after that, im pulling the rear end apart because there was some noise from the bearings. While im in there i'm going to be pulling the stock 3.08s and replacing them with some 3.42s i have lieing around. Luckly, the posi is still intact and in perfect order, so that should be good for now.
finally, off to get it inspected!! It should pass no problem. Even though it'll look like crap, its really all superficial. The car is actually really straight, and get this, the doors, hood, and all body parts that have GM info/codes from the factory still have the original codes! Thats right, this car still has every original panel on it, no accidents at all! still, im going to replace both front fenders just because they are a bit crappy, i need to swap the side skirts for a pair off my old parts car cause the current ones are cracked, and i need to swap the hatch pulldown mechanism for the one in my garage (that works).
After its inspected and everything is straightened out body wise, i really don't know what to do. I could get it painted and everything cleaned and back to new, but i also may do some performance mods. we'll see.
Thanks!

looks like a keeper!
let us know what you find making the noise in the rear end. i believe i have a bad axle bearing myself, and would like to see what you find.
really like the black/ blue stripe combo as well.
good luck!

yes it was interestingly enough, although a year of sitting knocked the price down $1400.
And i was gonna get a trans am, but there are 0 T/As around here that arn't overpriced, and everything just fell right with this car. It managed to hold my attention better than most camaros, so i bought it!

trans: LT1 T56. possibly beefed up a bit to handle the power.
rear: im still not sure really. whatever can handle the power. 3.73 gears most likly.
car will be built mostly for road racing, but im going to build it fast in a straight line first. after its a decent drag car ill replace every chassis and suspension piece that can be replaced, tune it for road racing, and have some fun! It'll mainly be a street car though.
Nope! Im just gonna get it banged out. Its really not all that bad. The previous owner was thrown into it when he wrecked his quad and hit it with his knee.

How much did you get for your yellow Iroc if you don't mind me asking? Sounds like you are all set. I know you are around my age, so it will be a while to get everything the way you like, so enjoy it even if it isn't quite how you would like it.

Re: New Iroc-Z project!!!!!!
yea. im planning over the next 4 years to finish it. I calculated it'll take roughly $14,000 to make it exactly how i want it. I hope for $4000 this summer, and $5000 over the next 2 years to make $14,000 in 3 years. I'm leaving the extra year for build time/mistakes/changes.
however i want it inspected before May is out.
and i got $900 for the yellow car

Just got $300 from the bank. It's off to the junkyards if everything goes well! I got about 5 in mind that take a big giant circle around town. Alot of driving, but full tank of gas in the grand am and off we go! Hope to find some treasures, and hopefully the pieces to complete the car

Re: New Iroc-Z project!!!!!!
Huge progress this weekend.
Junkyard purchases:
roof consol
un-curb-rashed front Iroc wheel
few switches
left rear spoiler chunk
few little bolts and bits and harnesses
seat tracks (2)
but the big gains were in the work i did today.
1. replaced the hatch pull down (now works)
2. new battery (yay!)
3.diagnosed that rear noise is indeed bearings (2 need replaced)
4. diagnosed mirror issues as mirror switch
5. fixed driverside mirror
6. painted left rear spoiler chunk
7.fixed tailight (wasnt working)
8. diagnosed heater issue as a minor wiring issue.
9.fixed wiring issue with headlight
10. diagnosed major computer issues. several issues, when i checked on the graph, all lead to one single ground. and get this. the ground was unplugged. plugged it in, and about 15 issues dissapeared
11. got the car running on all 8 cylinders (spark was arcing to the block)
12. diagnosed the smoke as indeed being a gasket.
13. found a "free" way to fix my shifter
so im figuring about $150 and she'll be ready to get inspected and driven. It was amazing once i fixed all that stuff with my trusty wiring diagram. i went to start her up at the end of the day, and it started on the first crank and just purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrred. I was in heaven

there are a ton of noises that can mean bearings. different noises for different bearings and kinds of damage etc etc etc.
mine are just worn and loose, so on decel off the gas they kinda make some grindy-ish wirry sounds... I'm really bad at describing sounds

in other news, we fixed the gasket oil leak and got to drive it. I just have 1 thing to say about the test drive...
It chirped the tires going into 2nd
