History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
Whats up guys? I totaled my 91 RS back in October. I'm in the process of looking for another car. I found a local craigslist ad for a 91 Z28. The guy says that its a 350 car and was special ordered with the car corral t-tops and red leather. Does anyone know if this is possible? The tops are the ones that open like a sunroof. I have no knowledge of these type of tops. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'll post some pics of my wreck. Also I'm looking for a 91-92. Thanks
Thanks Steve. Does this option hurt the value of the car?
You will get opinions from both sides. Me personally, I would rather have the 5.7 hardtop but if you like the tops... I'm sure someone will chime in but I think replacement C&C parts are very hard to find also

re: 91 Z28 350, C&C T-tops
I think right now they probably do not hurt the value a whole lot... However looking down the road 15-20 years they might... it is a hard call, no one can see the future, and T-tops with the 350 was NA on the Camaro from 1990-1992...
I have read where people actually like their C&C T-tops, and have good luck with them. I believe you can still get weatherstripping for them and everything, which would be a big factor... Of course if one breaks, you will spend time looking for another one would be the biggest down side right now.
The pop-up C&C t-tops are a VERY rare aftermarket option and a great design if you ask me. Go grab the car if it's a good deal before somebody else does!
The other issues on the car are easily fixed as you drive & enjoy.

re: 91 Z28 350, C&C T-tops
I was at the junk yard and they had a set of the pop-up T-tops... I grabbed one and took it outside to try it on my Factory T-top car and it was a definate no way I would be able to get them to work... I could have picked them both up for $50... wish I would have grabbed them now... 10 year and hindsight go a long way.
As the T-Tops are aftermarket, that information is not going to be documented by GM or researched through channels for GM records. You'd need to get the numbers from C&C - if they even existed - and they probably aren't detailed.

Ok, thanks JT! For future reference there is a place called the sunroof doctor that carries parts for them if anyone is searching. As far as I can tell they are the only place in the country that have parts
You won't be able to find any production numbers for C&C tops. They were installed by local dealers and shops. The shops were merely installing the kits without any central record keeping.

re: 91 Z28 350, C&C T-tops
AFAIK C&C is long gone
If you want to do a search, they were Cars & Concepts out of Michigan... Between Brighton & Novi MI. They were just off of I96 about 5 miles or so to the EAST of US23
C&C was no small company in the day, they actually made several concept cars like the Banshee concept (around 1988) and the dustbuster minivan concept. They also did things with Ford, IIRC they did the convertible conversions for them... But that is a bit more sketchy.
Didn't Pacific T-Top in Huntington Beach California do a bunch? I remember looking at a 88 GTA 5.7 with tops and the sticker they attached under the hatch said Pacific. IDK?

Keep in mind that the C&C tops were done either at the dealer or an independent fab shop... So someone in Huntington Beach may have done some for multiple Dealers around the country before the dealer took delivery of car... kind of like some of the convertibles... Before the dealer even saw the car, it was converted then delivered.

That makes sense. The dealer had told me it was delivered that way when I questioned the 5.7 and tops..... on a 88 model on the showroom floor.
That dealer was just outside LA.
Cool guys. Thanks for all of the info. I found out that by Dads neighbor used to work at Cars and Concepts. He said when he was there all of the stuff that he worked on was Ford stuff, fox body Mustangs. I remember seeing the building when I was a kid. I have family that lives near where the Brighton building was. The neighbor guy couldnt believe it when I showed him the C&C logo on the corner of my ttops. lol

When I was in High School, my girlfriends step-dad worked down there... he was telling me they would literally break every Fox mustang then weld them back together when they converted them... He said every one you would hear a really loud POW! and then they would repair it...
To all of you guys that were so helpful with my questions about the car I figured that I would post an update on the car. It cleaned up really well. I had the front clip shot. The interior and t top seals are next.
Is it Smoke or steam? It appears to be white, which would tend to make me believe it is Steam. Smoke, usually caused by oil, is typically Blueish.
Hey man, Can you change the title of the thread to Cars and Concepts t-tops instead of car corral t tops? So I dont look like an *** for not knowing what they were called. lol
