Hurst dual gate shifter?

Ok I'm getting ready too rebuild my transmission, and I want to install a aftermarket shifter too. I was looking at the hurst dual gate shifter, but it says it is for camaros only. Will it fit in a firebird? And why is it only for camaro's, I thought that they where basically the same cars?

That's odd, I was sure it used to say it was for Camaros AND Firebirds. There may have been some problems with the fit in certain models of Firebird.

Re: Hurst dual gate shifter?

the stupid console is different from a camaro, I'm running into how to mod mine to work now?.?.?
My gta has a one piece console while the camaro has the shifter plate that is removable. Thinking about hacking my mint console up and if it looks like **** I'll order a camaro console. after buying the dual gate for 500 bucks it's going in one way or another

Re: Hurst dual gate shifter?

I custom made some shift plates for the Camaro console in mine for use with the Dual Gate shifter. Possibly you could use it & modify to work in your bird?

This is the plate I had made. It's 2 pieces then I had it engraved. The multiple other ones I have are not engraved.

Re: Hurst dual gate shifter?

I have a Firebird shift plate here & can take a look & see if it's feasible to make work.

thanks man, let me know what you think.
I like the camaro console so it wouldn't be the end of the world having to buy one, it's buying one in awesome condition that's hard and the spending money part lol.

Re: Hurst dual gate shifter?

I think you will have issues with how the Camaro console lines up with the lower part or your dash. I'm thinking the plates I had made could work but won't be able to check until later today.
I had mine engraved at a trophy shop, so it can be made with whatever you'd want. I could actually have them engrave the PRNDL if it will work.

Re: Hurst dual gate shifter?

For the Bird console you're going to have a few issues:
1st is width
2nd is cutting the top into 2 sections (front & rear)
3rd is power switches

Re: Hurst dual gate shifter?

wondering if I can position it forward a bit to clear the power window switches and cut into the ashtray. I might be able to cut one side down to fit the width of the console, maybe.
thanks for the pic it really shows where the problems are.

Re: Hurst dual gate shifter?

I thought about that as well....possible but need the plate & shifter prior to making the call.
