Photos needed of brake switch assembly, early car.

Noticed I had no brake lights on the car, thinking it was finally ready for the road. Sigh.

1983 Firebird, so I believe any 82-86 f-body would be the same from what I'm reading.

Appears someone ripped out the brake switch assembly (above the brake pedal) while removing the cruise control.

I know I need the switch and retaining nut, but not sure where in the harness it plugs into.

Any photos of a proper setup would help a ton!

Worst case, I'll wire a pressure switch somewhere in line I guess.

Connectors under the steering column and there is a connector under the drivers side rear
panel in the back under the glovebox. Also the brake switch has two wires can`t remember what colors of you touch them together the lights should come on. Just make sure one side is hot.

Ok, I found the switch in a pile of parts that came with the car. I see which connector plugs into it (pink/purple wires) as the wires are bent perfectly to line it up.

But, it appears you need to also have another connector on the back two contacts on the brake switch. Found THAT plug too, along with what looks like a switch for the cruise control.

Problem is, A) I don't know which way the brown/green wire plug goes on, and B) have no idea where the green wire goes!

The brown wire goes to the cruise switch, which I don't think is necessary.

Getting closer! 84 1Le or Black_TA, an under dash shot would be -amazing-.

Re: Photos needed of brake switch assembly, early car.

That's what my original switch looked like, but I swapped mine to a later style.Wiring though is the same still.Org & bl = brakelight.Pnk/blk & gry (used to be purple) is TCC.

Never mind the little relay.Thats for the Dakota cruise control.I swapped to this switch cause it has an extra terminal if I ever need it & I couldn't use my old cruise control switch anymore.

I don't think the grn & brn goes to your switch, it doesn't have the locking tabs & nothing from the cc goes to the brk switch.Only the other switch w/ the vacuum fitting is for cc.Might go to the eng bay side of the cc harness. It easy to mix up the two connectors on the switch.Check the switch.Brake is closed & tcc is open with pedal released. They reverse when brakes are applied.Have you checked the org/wht for brk function, a jumper wire across the terminals should verify.

Thanks for the pics! But I'm seeing different wire colors than what I have.

I don't have an orange/lt blue or pinkblack/grey; I have orange/white and purple/pink! Odd as our cars are both early. Could be a Camaro/Firebird thing?

I'll jumper the orange/white to see if the lights come on.

Wait, think the pink/purple goes on the back of the switch and the orange/white goes on front? Man that'd be easy if that's all it was...

And as for the TCC, I'd have that plug even though it's a manual car?

I'm thinking that's what it is.I had pk & ppl, but the eng swap made my ppl obsolete.Only real dif is your white wire.Your pnk& ppl might be for the clutch instead.

Re: Photos needed of brake switch assembly, early car.

OK, you got it! The orange/white goes on the front part of the switch, with the white wire towards the front of the car.

The back connection does indeed connect with the brown/green wire I had pictured, but it is part of the cruise & TCC and not needed. Found this by checking out a friend's 82 T/A

So here's all you need!

Thanks for the help!! Got my inspection sticker this morning

Re: Photos needed of brake switch assembly, early car.

Glad to help.I don't think it matters which way the connector faces. The switch just transfers current from one wire(on the connector) to the other, on & off basically.
