Install photos of hood decal on 87 Formula, pic hvy.

Hi all,

I have been wanting to install a firebird hood decal for some time. I decided to use the decal that was on the 73-77 TA. I have seen a couple on a red bird and thought it would look good. I bought the decal from Phoenix graphix along with the smaller version for the side panels.

I had a local concern that did car graphics install it. Thought it might be of interest to post some photos. Photos are labeled when necessary. I let the decal dry overnight and its flawless, no wrinkles or bubbles. I am pleased.

Louis

Applying Slide on slime to back of decal to make it easier to place.

Applying Slide on slime to car hood.

Final placement and smoothing it out.

I love the 2 tone Formulas, but I can't say the hood bird fits this car. Especially in the colors you chose. Since the accent color is silver on the car, silver and black might have been a better choice. If you enjoy it, that's all that matters, but I liked the car better without it.

That really looks good. Just the way it should look. I'd give you a first place trophy for that.

Agree, plus the hood bird doesn't quit fit the formula hood.
I do like the idea of the older looking sail panel birds, diff colors tho?

Hi Guys,

Appreciate your comments, good and no so. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

If ever tire of it, off it comes. Its not something permanent.

First off....I like it.
Second....I get what Scott is saying.
Third....let me throw something out there. The ONLY thing I don't love is how the pinstripe/trim doesn't match the bird. WHAT IF......you peeled the orange/silver/black trim stripe, and restriped with orange/yellow/black to match the bird???? That's what I'd do.

Even easier (upon closer inspection) simply leave the pinstripe on there, and cover the silver pinstripe with a thin yellow pinstripe. You don't need to peel ANYTHING. Cost you probably $15 bucks and take you an hour or so.

....and you could peel it off in a second if you didn't like it.

Thanks for taking the time to put the stripe on the car. I really do like it and will pursue it.

I like it. Think it looks great on a Formula. The pinstripe idea of Abubaca will enhance it even more. Awesome!

This is what I mean by the bird doesn't fit the hood, see how this ones feathers lay out past the turbo bulge ? To me it looks a bit better that way, I do like the color of yours with the red

I like it!!! I think it's original and like the blending of generations. And like we always say, if we all liked the same things our cars would all be the same. Yours has your personal taste on it now... and it looks good. I also agree that adding the pinstripe at the bottom like in the pic enhances it even more.

See I like the fact that it's slightly smaller on the hood than the 2nd gen. It's still quite bold, but doesn't dominate the front end styling of the car.

And I like it better filled in 2nd gen. style than the outline style that was original to our cars.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for all your input. I do like the pin stripes that Abubaca placed on the car. As soon as I have some time, I will look for the striping. I am so impressed that he took the time to create the image with the stripes.
