So before I go, and spend a whole bunch of coin on some fabric, I wanted to know if anyone had any type of solid proof that this is the correct color/style of fabric. I need to find the correct shade of charcoal they used on the center of the Recaro seats in 85-86. I have a NOS set of seats that are not faded in anyway, and using some samples that I got from hawks, I was able to narrow it down to Chino Valor Dark charcoal. I am going to get the seats (F/R) recovered in black, and have the charcoal in the center. I have NOS black cloth already, now I just need the Charcoal. The only paperwork I can find on the seats is from phs but they dont give you much to work with.

 

The real thing is called Pallex. Trouble is no one is reproducing Pallex. So 'they' offer sorta look-alike fabrics.

 

I know for sure the centers on the seats were Graphite Pallax material.When I purchased my new Upholstery from Classic, I had to order a yard or two of the Graphite Pallax material from PUI (makers of the seat covers) to finish the door panels.At the time, PUI did not sell to the public, but I convinced them to sell me what I needed.You might be able to get it from them or they can give you a number of one of their suppliers, Their material is the Pallax that your looking for.

Im sure hawks gets their kits from the same place. They told me that they can sell just material.

 

I am also very interested in this. From my research there is no reproduction Pallex cloth in the charcoal color that is close to original. There is a tan reproduction for the Knight rider crowd that is very close. I have found a few products specifically geared toward Recaro seats. Headrest netting, under seat strap kit, repro foam and seat belt guides.

 

Make sure it's from PUI,I know my upholstery is Pallax,It is exactly what I replaced from my TA.
kimmee,PUI calls it Graphite not Charcoal.
I might have some left over,I would be willing to send you a sample piece.

The weirdest part about the recaros is that its a really dark charcoal. I have black, and carmine oem seats which I compared the color too a while back. The black is really light and the carmine is to light faded maybe?

Wow they are dark.Are they for 85-86?Maybe the Recaro's are supposed to be that dark.I did notice on Classics web that they also have the Pallox cloth upholstery in Black & Graphite.Maybe you could get the Black from PUI.
That dealer work sheet above that you posted says,NOTE, All Pallax cloth trims include Graphite insert color on seats and doors.

I have the black already. I got it from sms fabrics but I really hate their service. Took them forever to ship my fabric.

This is all I can find on those so far in the parts book.

 

There are four grays in Pallex. The dark gray on your Recaros is "C-3160 Graphite" on the Pallex sample chart in my stash.

"Granite" is a bit lighter, "Medium Dark Grey" is lighter still, and "Sand Grey" is the lightest, blandest gray.

 

Well I suppose that the dark Charcoal they offer is the closest im gonna get. I doupt that id be able to get that anywhere.

 

I dont know if the 85-86 material is the same shade as the 82, but here is my headrest underneath the metal bracket. Its also a very dark charcoal, almost looks black. This has never been exposed to any light, until a few weeks ago. These are from a 82 Recaro TA.

 

I believe that the material used in the 82 seats was a bit different from the later years.

 

It was a 1 year only fabric called Parella cloth.
