What did the previous owner do to my windshield washer fluid motor?

Hey guys...so bought this car 5 months ago from a guy. Okay what's up with this windshield washer fluid motor? I think the nozzle at the bottom is missing?

Also I see it looks like u can buy just the WASHER fluid motor from hawks or Ricks camaro. Is that as easy as popping the cover? Also it looks like he no passed the nozzle or some crazy stuff...I need help haha

Don't Know Why He Ran That Hose Directly Through The Firewall. Or Is It Just Leaning Against It.

Re: What did the previous owner do to my windshield washer fluid motor?

No need to order a replacement pump. GM used the same part on many cars of the era. Most autoparts stores will have them in stock.

The process of replacing the pump isn't hard. The little metal clip at the bottom needs to be popped out. IIRC don't pry it, but push up underneath and it'll release. Then the pump just pulls out of the wiper motor.

The new pump will have two hose barbs, an in and an out. The in goes to the washer fluid tank, out to the line through the firewall (actually cowl fwiw).

Re: What did the previous owner do to my windshield washer fluid motor?

It looks like the pump is MISSING. It plugs into this cavity (see pic).
I believe RockAuto has them. Just plug the new one in and connect the hoses.

windshield washer pump and motor

broken bits on the windshield washer pump and motor

what noemissions said, it just plugs in, I replaced mine a couple of months ago. In my opinion it was a lot easier to see what was going on with it out of the car, after messing with it a bit I figured out that that "cartridge" for lack of better terms just plugs in.

Re: What did the previous owner do to my windshield washer fluid motor?

Hey guys...I read online something about a check valve after these things? Is that so, I just bought a new pump from O-reillys and its coming in tomorrow morning . I do see some sort of check valve on mine I believe right after the output line...

Also do these pumps need to be primed how's that done? Take washer fluid from one end and blow it to the pump???

Hey guys all done! Got a Trick pump from oreillys for like 17 bucks some new line and what not and new fluid! Works great! I thought the fluid would spray hard onto the windshield like most cars...it kinda does none of that lol...but I guess that's 80s technology for u huh!

Re: What did the previous owner do to my windshield washer fluid motor?

This is better... at high speed you want the washer fluid on your windshield and not the guy behind you. I wish more cars did it this way instead of using those nozzles on the hood. It's also nice not to have any nozzles to have to clean and wax around.

Re: What did the previous owner do to my windshield washer fluid motor?

I just replaced the pump in my car and discovered this check valve was also broken, splitted. I discarded it and mounted up the new pump without it. What is the check valve's function? Recommended to get a replacement valve or leave it as is?

Re: What did the previous owner do to my windshield washer fluid motor?

I believe its suppose to keep the water from running back into the reservoir so the pump doesn't cavitate when you use the washer function.
