Gmpp sp 383, car is lowered on drop zone spirngs (remember them guys ), just cut half coil off fronts felt front end raised up maybe half inch after aluminum heads and other odds and ends. Haven't had the car back on the ground yet since snipping the springs, finishing up some other things.
Car has a t56 with hawks crossmember. Currently has cheap hedman 1 5/8 with y pipe, no cat and 3" hooker aero chamber kit to the back. I'm choking the poor thing right now with this.
Not looking to scrape all over car is 95 percent resto/mod. I understand how to tuck duals up w the hawks x member but will the long tubes be the scrape point with a half coil off the front springs? I like to drive this thing...
Not the point of this post but not convinced either that maybe 10 hp at 5k rpm is worth the ground clearance to have the long tubes. However for some reason I think they sound better and look awesome.
I'm tired of searching when none of the old pics work

I have seen both. Dons fit like stock clearannce. Hookers are low but even on my car they werent the low point, the pipes under the trans crossmember were. I was auto 700r4 with the spohn piece. It didnt allow alot of clearance for 3" pipe below the crossmember and it sef clearanced well lol
I have the hookers. I'm only about 1.5 lower than stock, I'd probably go lower but when I drop it I spin way to much. They are definitely the lowest part of the exhaust but I also made my own trans crossmeber and cut and raised the rear seat area for mufflers so it may not be the lowest part if not for that. I would take a pic of the ground clearance but I'm jacked up for new tiers now.
There are lots of sets that pop up for sale that have road rash on them. Lots of pictures from members showing off something on the underside and you can see the dented hooker long tubes. The Hooker long tubes will get dented in a lowered car if you try to drive it like a normal car. The first set of hooker long tubes I had I dented. The second set I drove very carefully around speed bumps, curbs and potholes and they have been fine. Now since this is a street car I would stay with shorties. Shorties will make life sooo much easier for ground clearance and working on the side or bottom of the engine.
When I had a auto I smashed up my first y pipe and went to duals and smashed up the x pipe. And being a little careful, fast surprises. When I went to the t56 I made a crossmember for max exhaust clearance and I think I'm less careful all the time.
Mounted up in the trans tunnel.
I have no idea what to do lol. 10 or so years ago i had hedman long tubes with 2.5 duals with flow masters. I remember coming to the bottom of a hill at about 80 the rear suspension loaded and ripped the mufflers clean off.... i swore id never go back to duals.
i have the Dyno Don shorties on my car with an LT1 based 383. 2.5 y into a 3.5 full mandrel single exhaust and it works like a champ. they tuck up very nice and tight
Robert, is the 3.5 single the mufflex system? From what I'm reading my 3 inch system will support 400 horse i should be just a few clicks over that, not sure of worth changing. I think I'm going to go with dons headers and skip the long tubes un less I come across a crazy deal on a set then i may play around with it

No it's a custom built system I made myself using TWO 24216 race bullets and some 3.5 piping I snagged from a powerstroke F350 from the junkyard. I have all of $100 in my entire Y pipe to the rear of the car. I love the way it sounds. I'll post up some pics later. It tucks VERY TIGHT to the body and I have more than enough ground clearance.
You have 2 of those bullet mufflers in the 3.5 inch pipe like one in front of the other? How difficult was it to make the bend right over the rear axle. How does it terminate in the rear.

I have one where the stock cat sits and one at the rear bumper. I chose to run just a single out the back and not duals for cleaner installation. I just notched and boxed the stock upper panhard bar for more clearance
Running Hedman 68460. The clearance lies not with the header itself but rather the y-pipe you build to adapt to whatever you're running from the "cat back".
You should be able to see that the pipe extending from the 3-bolt flange on the header is where the ground clearance issues come from. The headers themselves aren't even close to the ground. IIRC, my k-member is lower than the primaries of the headers.
This car is about 1-1/2" to 2" lower than stock.
The collector on my hookers look over a inch lower than those headmans. If I joined this sight before I put the car together I see a lot of things I would do differently. Maybe even shorty headers. I never heard of hawks but they might have better clearance on their long tubes.
Is there a sound clip of your setup? I'm shopping for an improved exhaust to replace the single 3". The full duals now available from Hooker seem to be the way to go but a 4" pipe and decent single muffler would probably suit my performance goals.
